Pill (Jiocinema) Review :-

Pill (Jiocinema) The director known for films like ‘Aamir,’ ‘No One Killed Jessica,’ and ‘Raid’ makes his streaming debut with ‘Pill,’ marking a sensational entry. Delving into the corruption within the pharmaceutical industry, ‘Pill’ captivates viewers across its eight episodes. What sets ‘Pill’ apart is its fresh perspective, despite following in the footsteps of recent Hollywood series like ‘Dopesick,’ ‘Painkiller,’ and ‘The Dropout’ that also tackle similar themes. Anchored by convincing performances and deft direction, the series explores the timeless David vs. Goliath narrative with nuanced details and well-paced storytelling. It’s a show that not only entertains but also prompts contemplation on the profound issues plaguing the pharmaceutical world.

The series centers around Dr. Prakash Chauhan (Riteish Deshmukh), Deputy Controller of Medicine at the Medicine Council of India. Forever Cure, a pharmaceutical giant led by Brahma Gill (Pavan Malhotra), releases a diabetes drug without adhering to necessary protocols. To inflate the test sample size, the company resorts to falsifying results, leading to serious kidney and vision-related complications. Brahma Gill, aided by his Chief Minister ally and his future son-in-law, conceals the malpractice. A rookie journalist’s discovery of a confidential document on Forever Cure’s medication sets off a chain of events involving whistleblower Ashish Khanna (Kunj Anand), Medicine Inspector Gurjit (Anshul Chauhan), and Dr. Prakash himself.

Pill (Jiocinema) Trailor :-

This crime-drama is elevated by exceptional performances that exude credibility and authenticity. Riteish Deshmukh delivers a nuanced and controlled performance, striking all the right chords. His wardrobe, choice of vehicle, and the familial dynamics add depth to his character, though the slight Bhojpuri accent could have been avoided. Pavan Malhotra once again dazzles in a menacing role as the cunning head of a pharmaceutical company, delivering a commanding performance. The juxtaposition between his character’s boardroom persona and his interactions with his mother showcases his versatility. The series also features several talented lesser-known actors who leave a lasting impression, notably Baharul Islam as the Head of Research at Forever Cure and Dr. Prakash’s mentor, Kunj Anand as Ashish Khanna, and Sanghasri Sinha as Dr. Neelima Chakraborty.

In terms of storyline, this crime drama doesn’t break new ground, often leading to predictable outcomes. However, it’s the skillful screenplay that distinguishes it, making the series highly binge-worthy. The cinematography lends a realistic feel to the events, while the inclusion of fresh talent enriches the viewing experience. ‘Pill’ explores a novel subject, shedding light on its malpractices akin to themes Madhur Bhandarkar might explore in his films. The series also stays relevant by reflecting contemporary issues, such as the recent license cancellations for 64 pharmaceutical companies as of February this year. ‘Pill’ takes some creative liberties, like the moment when Noor, the rookie journalist, discovers a confidential file during a fortuitous restroom break—a delightful coincidence that drives the plot forward. Despite these minor quirks, Jaideep Yadav and Mahim Joshie, alongside Gupta, deliver solid direction as expected. This series isn’t a bitter pill to swallow; in fact, it’s quite satisfying.
