OutHouse Review :-
Director Sunil Sukthankar’s slice-of-life drama opens with Adima Roy-Phatak (Sharmila Tagore), who is working on a graphic novel she feels is too dark and violent. Encouraged by her client, she is urged to create a story filled with light and positivity to contrast the gloomy tone. Things take an unexpected turn when her grandson Neel (Jeehan Hodar) arrives at her Pune home with his pet dog, Pablo (Simba). When Pablo runs away, Neel and Adima embark on a playful search, turning themselves into amateur detectives. Meanwhile, Pablo ends up with the grumpy and aloof Nana Modak (Dr. Mohan Agashe), who surprisingly grows fond of the dog. What follows is a humorous yet heartfelt tug-of-war over Pablo, with the adventure ultimately inspiring Adima’s graphic novel.
The film explores several poignant themes, particularly the often-overlooked desires of senior citizens and young children. In one powerful scene, Adima tells her daughter Vasu (Sonali Kulkarni) that Neel is not just a “responsibility” but an independent individual. Similarly, Nana reminds his son Nikhil (Sunil Abhyankar), who refers to his father as a burden, that he remains self-sufficient. The film also touches on the societal judgment faced by career-driven women, exemplified through Vasu’s narrative. Adima’s artistic storytelling adds a delightful layer, enhancing the film’s visual appeal.
While Sumitra Bhave’s story is heartwarming, the screenplay occasionally loses its pace, and some plot points feel unconvincing. For instance, Adima and Neel quickly abandon their search for Pablo, despite Neel’s clear distress. Similarly, Nana’s shift from a reluctant dog-sitter to a loving pet owner feels overly simplistic. Nonetheless, Sukthankar’s direction remains strong, and Saket Kanetkar’s jazz-infused score provides a playful yet captivating touch, especially during the detective-themed moments.
The film’s premise—a grandmother and grandson teaming up as detectives to outwit an eccentric James Bond enthusiast—is undeniably charming. However, some subplots, such as the strained relationship between Vasu and her husband Dutt (Neeraj Kabi), feel underdeveloped and lack resolution, leaving their storyline largely unexplored.
Humor shines through in moments like Nana proudly claiming that Pablo chose to stay with him, only for his neighbor Londhe (Pradeep Joshi) to jokingly suggest that the dog might leave once it realizes how grumpy Nana is.
OutHouse Trailor :-
Sharmila Tagore shines as the refined graphic designer eager for an adventure, while Dr. Mohan Agashe excels as the grumpy yet lovable Nana. Their performances are further supported by Sonali Kulkarni and Neeraj Kabi, who leave a strong impression in their brief roles, and Pradeep Joshi, whose comic timing steals the show.
The film is heartwarming and straightforward, filled with moments of charm and humor, but it lacks the narrative depth to fully captivate. While it may not be entirely unforgettable, it will leave viewers with a warm and pleasant experience.
