Our Times (Netflix) Review :-

Nora and Hector start off as a devoted couple, deeply in love and equally passionate about their groundbreaking project—a Time Machine. But from the outset, the film doesn’t shy away from portraying the casual sexism of the 1960s, where a woman’s success—especially an educated one like Nora—was rarely celebrated. Nora faces this dismissiveness daily, trapped in a time that caters almost entirely to male interests. So when the couple lands in 2025, it’s no surprise that Nora begins to thrive in a society that finally values her, while Hector struggles to find his place.

At first, they’re both fascinated by the future—drawn in by its innovations like the internet, smartphones, subways, and sleek laptops. It’s an overwhelming but exciting world for two people from the past. Despite its temptations, however, they both know they can’t stay. Their ultimate goal remains: to return to their own time. That’s why they team up with a group of brilliant modern-day scientists, working tirelessly to reverse their leap through time and get back to where it all began.

Nora fully embraces the freedom and opportunities that the future offers—freedoms she was long denied in the restrictive society of her own time. For the first time, she experiences what it’s like to be truly seen and heard, achieving things she once only dreamed of, like speaking at a professional conference—something that would’ve been nearly impossible for a woman in the 1960s. Yet, these very achievements begin to place a noticeable strain on her relationship with Hector.

While Hector was never overtly sexist or demeaning toward Nora, he also never stood up for her or challenged the discrimination she endured. His passive attitude allowed the systemic prejudice around them to go unchecked. He was comfortable in a world that favored him, and though he may not have actively contributed to Nora’s struggles, he certainly didn’t help ease them either. When the tables turn in 2025 and Hector faces the kind of marginalization Nora once did, he quickly slips into self-pity, failing to grasp the deeper implications of what he’s experiencing. His inability to adapt isn’t rooted in malice, but rather in the conditioning of a world that never asked him to question his place in it.

Unsurprisingly, things begin to unravel for the couple as their differences come to the surface. However, the film doesn’t resort to a bleak or tragic ending. Instead, it finds a thoughtful middle ground—one where neither Nora nor Hector has to compromise on what truly matters to them. It’s a resolution that feels earned, not forced. The actors deserve credit too; they bring genuine depth to their roles, portraying the inner conflict and emotional turbulence of two people trying to navigate overwhelming change with authenticity and nuance.

Final Thought

While the film makes for an enjoyable viewing experience, the writing falls a bit short in terms of originality. The plot follows a familiar trajectory, with few twists or standout moments to truly elevate it. As a light sci-fi entertainer, it has its charm and works well as a satisfying one-time watch. However, it doesn’t quite deliver the innovation or narrative depth that fans of the genre might expect.
