Oops Ab kya? (JioHotstar) Review :-
The boldness of making out in the middle of a busy Mumbai street, inside a personal vehicle with its emergency lights flashing, is a level of desperation that most of us can’t fathom. Roohi’s family discusses her virginity as though it’s a casual everyday topic, and no one seems to be outraged about her being artificially inseminated without consent. This raises a lot of moral and legal grey areas.
To begin with, I’m pretty sure women who have never given birth can’t become surrogates, which is essentially Roohi’s role in this situation. This would undoubtedly lead to a high-profile legal case, one that lawyers would be eager to dive into. Moreover, there are several checks that must be made before frozen sperm can be used — for starters, Alisha would need Samar’s written consent to use his sperm.

The reason I’m pointing all of this out is because the series relies on the flawed logic of “Oops, I inseminated a random woman with someone else’s sperm.” That’s not how things work, and I think presenting this kind of message can be misleading, especially for viewers who might not be familiar with the intricacies of IVF and surrogacy laws. While some might find this a funny accident, it’s actually a significant issue that the show brushes off a bit too casually.
As for the series itself, Oops! Ab Kya? is based on Jane the Virgin, which won hearts largely thanks to Gina Rodriguez’s standout performance and its telenovela-inspired vibe. Oops! Ab Kya? brings an Indian twist (for obvious reasons), but still delivers plenty of drama that will likely entertain most viewers. The show gives Roohi a life beyond just being Samar’s surrogate, and it’s refreshing to explore her character before all of this chaos. Shweta Basu Prasad is a great addition, fitting well into the role, although she doesn’t quite capture the same fiery energy that Rodriguez brought to the character.

Either way, the story is wild enough to be genuinely entertaining, with relatable moments and sincere performances. The cast brings their A-game, and the chemistry between the characters makes it fun to watch. The outlandish concept helps it breeze by, and while the first episode is a bit tough to swallow, it eventually finds its rhythm. The conflicts and emotional rollercoasters pull you in, leaving you eager for more. I also have to give credit to the narrator for adding humor to the chaos on screen — his presence is both witty and enjoyable.
Oops Ab kya? (JioHotstar) Trailor :-
One of the things I really enjoyed about the series is how emotional it gets and how genuinely kind most of the characters are. Omkar, Paakhi, and Roohi’s grandmother — they’re all such sweethearts from start to finish. They have their flaws, of course, but at the end of the day, they genuinely want the best for Roohi and make an effort to understand her on a deeper level. Abhay Mahajan as Omkar is especially heartwarming, while Aashim Gulati plays the irresistibly charming Samar. While we know how the story unfolds, it’s still fun to watch it play out. Jaaved Jaaferi also adds his touch to the series, and I must say, he’s incredibly entertaining as Vanraj.
Final Thought
Oops! Ab Kya? kicks off with an improbable and somewhat unrealistic premise, urging us to suspend our disbelief for the sake of entertainment. Is it worth it? To some extent — the series is a light and amusing watch, featuring solid performances that promise a good time if you don’t focus too much on the finer details. Shweta Basu Prasad may not be Gina Rodriguez, but she brings charm and warmth to the role, making her a protagonist you can’t help but root for despite her flaws.
