Danish Sait and his team seem to be crafting authentic Bengaluru-centric content with “One Cut Two Cut.” Reflective of the diverse and multilingual nature of the Garden City, Danish’s work resonates not only with local audiences but also with those beyond Bengaluru. In this film, an innocent arts and crafts teacher in a government school becomes emblematic of the innocence lost amidst the pressures of education, societal norms, and personal vices.

The movie unfolds over the course of a single day, coinciding with Gopi’s first day at the government school. As Gopi begins to settle into his role as a professor, the unexpected occurs—the school becomes the scene of a hostage crisis. The four individuals behind the hostage-taking include an AIR radio jockey, an online activist, a stand-up comedian, and a retired serviceman. Notably, none of them speak Kannada, resulting in significant portions of the film being in English.

Clocking in at just under 90 minutes, “One Cut Two Cut” is an effortless watch. The characters are both humorous and intricately crafted, offering a blend of wit and sensitivity. Gopi, portrayed as an innocent individual with imperfect English but a knack for teaching arts, transcends mere caricature and prompts viewers to contemplate the contrasts between his innocence and the complexities of those around him. While Gopi’s antagonist, Prithviraj, initially struggles to establish his presence, his antics and the unexpected Amitabh Bachchan connection add layers of hilarity to the narrative.

“One Cut Two Cut” isn’t a film that requires deep analysis; it’s a lighthearted yet sincere portrayal with a strong emotional core. Simultaneously, it avoids falling into the trap of being just another mindless comedy. The storytelling is mostly effective, although there are a few casting choices that may raise eyebrows. Ultimately, however, everything comes together seamlessly, despite minor flaws. Danish and Vamsidhar Bhogaraju have produced a commendable film, and credit is due to the late Puneeth Rajkumar and his wife Ashwini for supporting such an unconventional tale.
