Obliterated Story:-
Works such as “Arrested Development,” “The Office,” and even the “Hangover” film trilogy have spurred writers to infuse humor with satire, offering insights into 21st-century American society. These productions delve into themes ranging from race and sexuality to work and class. The creators of “Cobra Kai,” Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald, adopt a satirical approach in their action comedy series “Obliterated,” set in Las Vegas, available on Netflix. However, “Obliterated” misses the mark, delivering a perplexing, nearly unwatchable mishmash of absurdity filled with crude humor and explosions.

The series kicks off with a scorching rooftop party at a casino, where an elite special forces team is wrapping up a six-month mission to thwart a Russian bomb threat and save the city from destruction. CIA Agent Ava Winters (played by Shelley Hennig), the no-nonsense squad leader, struggles to maintain order while grappling with her attraction to Navy SEAL Chad McKnight (Nick Zano), who prefers to do things his own way, causing tension within the team.

Among the team members are McKnight’s best friend, Trunk (Terrence Terrell), an obsessive foodie with a hidden secret, and NSA agent Maya Lerner (Kimi Rutledge), known as Tech Girl, who thrives behind a computer screen and harbors feelings for McKnight. Marine sniper Angela Gomez (Paola Lázaro) focuses on her marksmanship and romances Vegas’ bachelorettes, while Air Force pilot Paul Yung (Eugene Kim) struggles with his distant relationship with his teenage daughter. Lastly, Army explosives expert Haggerty (C. Thomas Howell) adds an unpredictable element to the team.

Despite some setbacks, the team successfully defuses the bomb, concluding their mission. However, McKnight persuades Ava to let the team celebrate with a wild party, leading to unforeseen chaos. Just as the festivities begin, they receive news that the neutralized nuke was a decoy, forcing the intoxicated team to spring back into action to save Las Vegas and salvage their careers.

While the concept of “Obliterated” holds promise, with intoxicated special ops agents attempting heroic feats, the execution falls flat. The series relies too heavily on crude humor and tired stereotypes, detracting from its potential wit and satire. The plotlines, including the predictable romantic tension between Ava and McKnight, lack depth, and the dialogue feels uninspired.

Despite its ambition, “Obliterated” fails to provide meaningful substance beyond superficial entertainment, leaving viewers wanting. Had the episodes been condensed into shorter segments, focusing on pacing and humor, the series might have realized its comedic potential. Instead, it delivers a disjointed and ultimately unsatisfying viewing experience, leaving viewers feeling disconnected and disappointed.

“Obliterated” premiered on Netflix on November 30th.
