“No Hard Feelings” ventures into the realm of the absurd with its premise, offering a bold and risqué sex romp that stands out in the comedy genre. Directed by Gene Stupnitsky and co-written with John Phillips, the film is brimming with sexual innuendos, puns, and slapstick humor, leaving little to the imagination. While some of the best moments may have been revealed in the trailers, they still manage to elicit plenty of laughter within the context of the charming and comical dynamic between a stunning woman and a hopelessly clueless young man.
The film takes a familiar trope—an older woman dating a much younger man—and injects it with a fresh twist by exploring the motivations behind such an arrangement. In doing so, it boldly challenges societal norms and prompts viewers to contemplate how gender roles might be perceived differently in such scenarios. Jennifer Lawrence delivers a standout performance as Maddie, embracing her character’s desperation with gusto and adding a goofy and endearing charm to the role. Opposite her, Andrew Barth Feldman shines as Percy, capturing the character’s innocence and awkwardness with authenticity.
While not every joke lands perfectly, “No Hard Feelings” offers a rollicking ride filled with genuine humor and moments of coming-of-age levity. The film strikes a balance between entertainment and introspection, cleverly subverting expectations and turning gender dynamics on their head. If you’re in the mood for a comedy that pushes boundaries and fearlessly challenges societal norms, then “No Hard Feelings” is sure to provide a delightfully naughty escape.
