Anil Kapoor and Rani Mukerji, who were acclaimed for their roles in Nayak, are reuniting after 23 years for Nayak 2. The original film, centered on Shivaji Rao’s one-day tenure as Chief Minister, is a beloved political action spectacle. After more than two decades, Nayak 2 is reportedly in the works, promising a reunion of these two stars.
According to sources, Nayak 2 will continue from where the first film left off. Producer Mukut confirmed the project’s progress and mentioned that an official announcement is forthcoming.
Anil Kapoor and Rani Mukerji’s pairing for Nayak 2
Producer Mukut revealed that the screenplay for Nayak 2 is currently in development, with Anil Kapoor and Rani Mukerji set to reprise their roles.
In an interview with Midday, Mukut confirmed plans for the sequel, which will continue the story with the original characters. He mentioned that he acquired the rights from producer AM Rathnam some time ago and is now crafting the script with Kapoor and Mukerji in mind. Although they have a few directors under consideration, no final decision has been made yet.
Mukut also shared that initial discussions with Anil Kapoor and Rani Mukerji have begun and are in the early stages. He noted the possibility of introducing new actors to the sequel. Nayak 2 will explore themes of corruption, bureaucracy, and the influence of the masses.
Nayak, released in 2001, was a remake of Shankar’s 1999 Tamil film Mudhalvan. The original film featured Amrish Puri, Paresh Rawal, and Johnny Lever in prominent roles and received widespread appreciation.
