Sanjay Gupta, serving as the writer, producer, and director, plunges viewers into the heart of the action from the outset. The film opens with a gripping scene where gangsters pursue a cunning businessman for assassination in broad daylight, setting the tone for the lawless era of early 1990s Bombay. In this era ruled by crime bosses and politicians with agendas, Amartya Rao (John Abraham), a sturdy young man, transforms into a formidable force after his brother Arjun (Prateik Babbar) narrowly survives a brutal attack by thugs. Thus begins Amartya’s journey into the perilous world of mafia, corrupt politicians, and a relentless encounter specialist, all vying for control over Mumbai.

The screenplay is packed with the elements of a blockbuster action thriller, featuring punchy dialogues delivered with flair and drama. While the abundance of strong and determined characters fuels relentless conflicts, the first half is particularly captivating, with John Abraham’s powerhouse performance driving the action. However, as the film progresses into the second half, some plot twists and complications become convoluted, although the entertainment quotient remains high with ample action, thrills, and gunplay.

John Abraham shines in his role, shouldering the film with his rugged intensity and delivering impactful punches. Emraan Hashmi impresses as officer Vijay Savarkar, bringing depth to his trigger-happy character. Suniel Shetty and Mahesh Manjrekar stand out in their roles, while Kajal Aggarwal and Anjana Sukhani have limited screen time. The background score by Amar-Mohile enhances the film’s atmosphere, outshining the songs.

If you enjoy gritty gangster dramas filled with action and adrenaline, ‘Mumbai Saga’ is worth a watch.
