Mercy Review :-
Set in the near future, Mercy shows a version of California struggling with rising crime and chaos. As the justice system begins to fail, authorities introduce a new AI-powered legal system meant to deliver fast and strict justice.
At the center of this system is a courtroom run entirely by an AI judge, Judge Maddox (Rebecca Ferguson). Each trial lasts just 90 minutes, during which evidence, surveillance footage, behavior patterns, and data are reviewed. If the accused is found guilty, the punishment is instant and final—execution. In this system, AI acts as judge, jury, and executioner.
In a cruel twist of fate, respected police officer Chris Raven (Chris Pratt), who once strongly supported the system, becomes its next accused. Charged with murdering his wife in what seems like a crime of passion, the case appears straightforward at first. Tied to a chair and running out of time, he must challenge the very system he believed in. But when algorithms have already reached a conclusion, the question remains whether the truth is enough.
Director Timur Bekmambetov and writer Marco van Belle create a dystopian story that feels uncomfortably close to reality. Though the idea seems futuristic, the film reflects a world where artificial intelligence already plays a growing role in decisions, surveillance, and moral judgment.
The screenplay doesn’t take time to ease viewers in. From the very start, the film dives straight into tension and keeps a fast pace throughout. The visuals are packed with on-screen data, recorded clips, graphics, and quick cuts, creating a chaotic and stressful atmosphere. This style puts the audience under the same pressure as the main character, while a constant countdown makes time feel like another enemy.
Chris Pratt gives a strong and restrained performance, showing the fear, anger, and desperation of a man whose life is falling apart in real time. He grounds the film emotionally as a respected officer dealing with guilt, loss, and panic. Rebecca Ferguson also stands out as Judge Maddox, bringing depth to a role that could have felt flat. She plays the AI judge with authority and presence, without making it feel cold or robotic.

The film sometimes feels a bit unrealistic, especially in how easily some twists happen. Still, with AI becoming such a big part of today’s world, the story doesn’t feel completely impossible. A constant sense of tension keeps the audience engaged, even when the plot becomes predictable or oversimplifies difficult moral issues.

The background music by Ramin Djawadi and the sharp editing by Austin Keeling and Lam T. Nguyen match the film’s fast pace, while the bold visuals keep the energy high. Although the movie sometimes favors simplicity over depth, it still keeps viewers on edge and engaged.
Overall, Mercy is a slightly over-the-top sci-fi thriller about the risks of unchecked AI, but it presents the idea with intensity and creativity. More importantly, it raises important questions about the dangers of leaving human judgment completely to machines.
