The title itself hints at the central theme of the series, with each episode focusing on a different scam orchestrated by Matsya, often using unique disguises in critical situations. Drawing parallels to characters and situations from the Mahabharata adds depth to the narrative, providing viewers with an intriguing blend of mythology and modern-day crime.
Despite the abundance of clichés, Shiv Singh’s screenplay manages to keep audiences engaged, with twists and turns that keep them guessing. While some plot developments may be predictable, the overall narrative remains compelling, leaving viewers eager to see what unfolds next.
Comparisons to Bollywood heist films, such as “Dhoom 2,” are inevitable, particularly with the use of multiple disguises by the protagonist. Director Arun Bhuyan effectively captures the essence of the cat-and-mouse chase, set against the backdrop of locations like Meerut, Delhi, and Jaipur.
The performances are commendable, with Ravii Dubey delivering a convincing portrayal of Matsya, showcasing his character’s evolution from a troubled youth to a cunning con artist. Ravi Kishan impresses as ACP Tejraj Singh, injecting intensity into the pursuit of Matsya. Rajesh Sharma and Piyush Mishra also shine in their respective roles, adding depth to the supporting cast.
The production design by Saloni Dhatrak is noteworthy, capturing the essence of the various settings, while cinematographer Manojh Reddy effectively captures the action sequences in real locations. However, tighter editing by Micky Sharma could have helped to alleviate some pacing issues.
The series concludes with hints of more twists and turns to come in future seasons, promising an even trickier and edgier storyline. Overall, “Matsya Kaand” is an engaging watch, thanks to its captivating storyline and strong performances from the cast.
