Maintenance Required (AmazonPrimeVideo) Review :-
There’s something to be said about the endless flood of rom-coms that grace our screens every week. Whether on the big screen or streaming at home, these films stir up our emotions, making feelings bubble to the surface as we root for that perfect, charming someone who seems to have it all. Add a dash of conflict between the lovebirds, and you’ve got all the ingredients needed to make the story both juicy and heartfelt.
Maintenance Required struggles to engage, largely due to its two protagonists, who come across as annoyingly one-dimensional. The film retreads the tired trope of secret lovers unaware of each other’s identity while being real-life rivals, as they both try to sort out their lives and chase their goals—and honestly, it felt painfully dull watching it all unfold.
Charlie and Beau are flat, uninspired characters who seem to be following a formula rather than living as real people. It’s hard to connect with them or find their stories compelling enough to invest emotionally. The conflicts feel overly clichéd to the point that I found myself frustrated rather than entertained—a reaction far from what you’d expect from a rom-com.
Jacob Scipio, unfortunately, doesn’t come across as a Prince Charming who could sweep me off my feet. His performance feels flat, lacking the charm needed to set him apart from the rest of the cast. Madelaine Petsch’s character is much the same—nothing particularly fresh or exciting beyond being a passionate car repairwoman. The supporting characters mainly exist for comic relief or backup, and while I enjoyed seeing Madison Bailey and Katy O’Brian, the humor from the rest of the supporting cast often falls flat.
Maintenance Required (AmazonPrimeVideo) Trailor :-
Ultimately, the main issue with the film is that it feels just like countless others before it. Nothing about it stands out, and many scenes play out like recycled moments from other rom-coms. It’s disappointing to watch a romance so lifeless and lacking in passion, where the love story never truly sparkles. Whether it’s the cast, the script, or a mix of both, Maintenance Required comes across as frustratingly flat and immature, making it difficult to connect with the conflicts on screen. Or maybe I’ve just reached my limit after seeing this same story told over and over—who’s to say?
Final Thought
I fail to see the purpose of this film. It evokes nothing but frustration and delivers the same tired, cookie-cutter story that countless other half-baked rom-coms force upon us. I’m exhausted by this by now—though apparently, streaming services aren’t ready to give it a rest.
