When Made in Heaven Season 1 premiered in 2019, it made waves by uncovering the imperfect realities behind extravagant weddings and the marriages of the elite. By the end of the first season, Tara confronts the possibility of divorce from her husband, Adil Khanna (Jim Sarbh), after discovering his affair with Faiza (Kalki Koechlin). Meanwhile, Adil learns the truth behind the circumstances surrounding their wedding.

In Season 2, set six months later, Tara and Karan strive to revive their business after facing financial setbacks. This involves relocating their office to a run-down house in North Delhi and welcoming a new business partner, Jauhariji (Vijay Raaz), whose focus is solely on profits rather than the extravagant weddings for which Made in Heaven is renowned. Jauhariji’s wife, Bulbul (Mona Singh), joins as the auditor, ensuring strict financial management, which clashes with the team’s creative endeavors. Additionally, tensions arise over the hiring of Meher (Trinetra Haldar) and excessive spending.

As the stories of the main characters and their clients unfold, the series delves into various layers. Beneath the surface of opulent weddings lie dysfunctional families, toxic relationships, and flawed characters. Each episode tackles themes such as society’s obsession with fair-skinned brides, domestic abuse, polygamy, parental opposition to same-sex relationships, and caste prejudices.

Directed by Zoya Akhtar, Reema Kagti, Neeraj Ghaywan, Alankrita Shrivastava, and Nitya Mehra, Made in Heaven exposes societal hypocrisy and double standards. The ensemble cast, including Neelam, Radhika Apte, Dia Mirza, Mrunal Thakur, Sarah Jane Dais, Shibani Dandekar, and Pulkit Samrat, delivers compelling performances. Notable episodes include Ghaywan’s exploration of a Dalit author reclaiming her identity, Apte’s portrayal of a woman in a polygamous relationship, and Mirza’s depiction of a woman navigating complex family dynamics.

Amidst the wedding narratives, the personal lives of Tara, Karan, Bulbul, Meher, Kabir, and Jaspreet unfold. Karan grapples with his mother’s acceptance of his sexuality and her cancer diagnosis, while Tara seeks closure in her divorce settlement and embarks on a new romance. Bulbul faces challenges at home, and Meher hopes for meaningful connections despite societal barriers. Vikrant Massey and Neil Bhoopalam make notable appearances, while Trinetra Haldar impresses in her debut, and Mona Singh shines in her multifaceted role.

Arjun Mathur and Sobhita Dhulipala deliver standout performances, supported by high production values and stunning costumes. Made in Heaven captivates viewers by peeling back the layers of its characters, challenging stereotypes, and defying conventions.
