Maalik Review :-

Director Pulkit’s film feels like an outdated gangster drama weighed down by dull storytelling and a tangled screenplay. Co-written by Jyotsana Nath and Pulkit, the story offers little depth into Deepak’s rise in the criminal world—beyond a shaky origin where his powerless father is beaten by a local boss, pushing Deepak to embrace crime and adopt the name Maalik. The plot lacks substance, revolving mostly around one gang warlord after another trying to take him down. This includes MLA Balhar (Swanand Kirkire), who enlists a suspended Kolkata SP, Prabhu Das (Prosenjit Chatterjee), to capture Maalik. Even his mentor, Shankar Singh (Saurabh Shukla), and rival Chandrashekhar (Saurabh Sachdeva) turn against him. The film drags as each antagonist attempts to eliminate him, only for Deepak to dispatch them one by one. As the story blurs between who’s pursuing him and when, it dissolves into repetitive shootouts that grow tiresome. The narrative briefly picks up in the second half, with some well-executed action scenes, especially the climax, providing a glimpse of finesse.

While the film’s lack of a gripping plot makes for a tedious watch, it manages to maintain a steady pace throughout. However, a major betrayal near the end reduces the story to something predictable. Anuj Rakesh Dhawan’s cinematography and Ketan Sodha’s background score add a layer of polish to the overall experience.

Maalik Trailor :-

Rajkummar Rao gives a powerful performance, skillfully balancing the menace of a feared gangster with the warmth of a devoted family man. Prosenjit Chatterjee, though in a brief role, impresses as the relentless SP determined to take Maalik down. Manushi Chhillar, with limited screen time, holds her own as Maalik’s wife, while Anshumaan Pushkar effectively portrays Maalik’s college friend turned trusted aide. The supporting cast—including Saurabh Shukla, Swanand Kirkire, and Saurabh Sachdeva—provide solid backing throughout.
