What does trust mean to a generation living in the age of situationships? Can love endure in a world full of modern distractions, where temptation is just a click away through messaging apps, social media, and endless options? This is the heart of director Chandan Advait’s vibrant romcom, originally written by Pradeep Ranganathan.
Gaurav “Gucci” Sachdeva and Baani Sharma believe they share a completely transparent relationship, knowing everything about each other—until Baani’s father, Atul Kumar Sharma (Ashutosh Rana), shakes things up. The strict patriarch tests their trust by making them swap phones, promising his blessing for their marriage if all goes smoothly. What follows is a whirlwind of chaos as secrets are revealed and misunderstandings pile up.
While the premise is entertaining, the movie begins with typical romantic moments between the couple, with the central conflict of the phone exchange not occurring until about 30 minutes in. Sneha Desai’s screenplay feels a bit disjointed, as the first half primarily focuses on Baani’s secrets, while the second half shifts to Gucci’s. A parallel storyline involving Gucci’s sister Kiran (Tanvika Parlikar) and her fiancé Anupam (Kiku Sharda) adds depth to the plot, particularly as Anupam’s obsessive phone-guarding stirs up suspicion.
The film effectively captures the dating landscape and lifestyle of Gen-Z. While the narrative sometimes feels drawn out, Gucci and his friends scrambling to keep his secrets adds a fun element, complemented by Tanishk Bagchi and Suyyash Rai’s trendy soundtrack that keeps the energy high. Beneath the humor, the film also delves into the darker side of the digital world, addressing issues like fake identities, deepfake videos, and the generational divide between Boomers and Gen-Z, with lines like “Repair karna seekho, replace nahi” (Learn to repair, not replace). It also touches on body-shaming and gender expectations in relationships, with Baani commenting, “Tu abhi sirf chaubees ka hua hai, main chaubees ki ho gayi hoon” (You’ve just turned 24, but I’ve already turned 24).

Junaid Khan shines in his second big-screen appearance, effortlessly bringing charm to his portrayal of the carefree young man. Khushi Kapoor also stands out as Baani, delivering a performance filled with emotion and ease. Together, they make a convincing young couple. Grusha Kapoor is excellent as Gucci’s loud, nagging Punjabi mother, while Ashutosh Rana impresses as the stern, shuddh Hindi-speaking father. Kiku Sharda and Tanvika Parlikar also provide strong support, rounding out the ensemble cast.
Final Thought
The film offers an entertaining and youthful take on modern love, capturing the dilemmas of the digital age. However, a more streamlined and focused narrative could have amplified its impact. For fans of romcoms and dramas, it’s an enjoyable and light-hearted watch.
