Conceptualized by Somen Mishra and produced by Dharmatic Entertainment, this anthology celebrates love transcending religious, caste, and gender barriers. By keeping the glamour quotient minimal, the show stays true to its emotional core. The stories and experiences of the real-life protagonists add authenticity and deeply resonate with viewers’ hearts.
Six directors — Akshay Indikar, Archana Phadke, Collin D’Cunha, Hardik Mehta, Shazia Iqbal, and Vivek Soni — have directed the individual episodes inspired by the ‘India Love Project,’ a social media community founded by former journalists Priya Ramani, Samar Halarnkar, and Niloufer Venkatraman, dedicated to celebrating love in all its forms.

The first episode, ‘An Unsuitable Girl,’ directed by Hardik Mehta, delves into the challenges faced by Aekta Kapoor and Ullekh NP, representing a typical North Indian-meets-South Indian narrative. The antagonists in this story are Aekta’s two daughters from a previous marriage. The episode provides insight into the couple’s dynamic and how they navigate through it.
The second episode follows the love story of Shillong-based radio jockeys Nicholas J. Kharnami and Rajani K. Chhetri, who met through an on-air prank. Directed by Vivek Soni, ‘Love On Air’ showcases their transition from commitment phobia to genuine attachment.
Award-winning director Shazia Iqbal’s episode, ‘Cross Borders,’ focuses on the Sahas, a couple from Kolkata in their 70s, who met during the Bangladesh Liberation Movement in 1971 and fell in love.
Akshay Indikar directs ‘Raah Sangharsh Ki,’ depicting an intercaste marriage between IIT graduate Rahul Banerjee and Dalit girl Subhadra Khaperde, who met at a Narmada Bachao Andolan demonstration in 1991.
Archana Phadke’s episode, ‘Faasley,’ narrates the love story of Dhanya, a Kerala native, and Homayon, an Afghan national, who met while studying in Moscow and have faced numerous challenges throughout their two-decade marriage, including hardships in war-torn Afghanistan.
The final episode, ‘Love Beyond Labels,’ directed by Collin D’Cunha, follows the journey of Tista Das and Dipan, the first transgender couple to marry in West Bengal, from seeking help at a helpline to making history with their union.
While these real-life love stories are heartwarming and authentic, the half-hourly format of the episodes may not appeal to everyone. ‘Love Storiyaan’ is commendable for showcasing love in its diverse forms, reminding viewers that love exists beyond the realms of cinema. Enjoy these love stories with your sweetheart on Valentine’s Day, but for those seeking more entertainment, romantic dramas might be a better choice.
