Marketed as a mature love story, the film follows two individuals who decide to pursue their dreams, even if it means being apart for a while. Beautifully crafted, the animation adds a layer of depth and emotional nuance, freeing the story from the typical expectations that might come with a live-action version.
The film offers a deeply empathetic portrayal of adult relationships, showing that they aren’t always filled with romance and comfort—sometimes they demand tough choices, even if it means pursuing personal dreams despite the cost. Jay pleads with Nan-young not to go to Mars, fearing the pain of losing her after watching Ji-young’s final video. But Nan-young presses forward, knowing that if she lets this opportunity slip away, she might carry resentment toward Jay forever. Sure, Jay said some hurtful things, and Nan-young didn’t always show empathy for his concerns, but so much can be resolved through honest conversation. I’m glad the film didn’t drag out unnecessary conflict. These are flawed, everyday people facing life-changing challenges—mistakes are inevitable in such intense situations.
The characters felt incredibly relatable, written with such depth and nuance that I found myself genuinely moved throughout the film. It’s not just their romance that hits home, but also their personal struggles and introspection that make their journey so heartfelt and emotionally resonant.
