This dramedy is a delightful watch, blending romance, warmth, conflict, and stunning countryside visuals. Rooted in minimalist storytelling reminiscent of ’90s and early 2000s cinema—before the Marvel superhero era—this feel-good series is perfect for a relaxing weekend with a glass of beer. It seamlessly combines romance, crime, and thriller elements, creating an engaging and comforting narrative centered around three generations of women in a family. While it defies easy genre classification, it caters to a wide audience by offering a bit of everything.
The story revolves around Gala (played by Eva Longoria), Julia (Carmen Maura), and Kate (Victoria Bazua). It begins with Kate organizing a party for the launch of her wine shop, where she receives shocking news: her husband has committed fraud by taking out a $15 million loan and has disappeared. Threatened with harm to her mother, Julia, and daughter, Kate, Gala confronts her husband Fred (James Purefoy), who advises her to flee immediately with their family. Their only sanctuary is Gala’s ancestral home in a village in Catalonia, Spain, where Julia spent her childhood. As they settle into the village, humorous revelations about the family’s past emerge, alongside a quest to uncover Gala’s true father’s identity.
