Kleo Season 2 (Netflix) Review :-
Kleo – Season 2 Episode 1 “The Seahorse” Recap & Review
Episode 1 of Kleo Season 2 picks up right where we left off. The US has the red suitcase, and a middle-aged woman is driving to the airport to deliver it to the President. However, she is killed by the driver, Kimberley, who takes the briefcase and blows up the car.
Meanwhile, Kleo, still reeling from Sven’s betrayal, is hit with another shock when her mother shows up at her door. Her mother explains that she had been under surveillance and couldn’t reveal everything to Kleo last season. She’s being threatened and needs to go into hiding. “You know what to do,” she tells Kleo before they part ways. Additionally, she mentions something cryptic about doughnuts.
Heading back inside, Kleo removes the bugs planted around her house. As news of the car bombing breaks, Kleo checks through the doughnuts from her mum, discovering a coded message hidden inside. The paper stashed in one of the doughnuts reads “destroy the suitcase.”
Sven shows up to see Jenny and attempts to patch things up with her. It doesn’t work, but he does spend some time with Freddy. Meanwhile, Freddy has obtained important information about a Hotel Tegel, where Min Sun was staying. This clue is crucial as it links back to the red briefcase.
Sven arrives at the hotel only to find someone named Rose instead of Min Sun. Min Sun has been “deactivated” (i.e., killed), and Rose, who is part of the CIA, wants to collaborate with Sven. Sven refuses, deciding he can’t betray Kleo again.
Meanwhile, Kleo arrives at the bombing site and begins investigating with her dog, Asta. Rose intercepts her, and as Kleo walks away, Rose mentions her mum, sparking Kleo’s interest. Maintaining a good poker face, Kleo heads straight to her place. While rummaging through her belongings, she finds a crucial clue in the form of a picture showing her with a seahorse necklace she had as a kid.
Thilo, still feeling the effects of his hallucinogen trip, shows up with Ciana, and they decide to crash at her place for a while. Kleo plans to visit Aunt Margot but instead finds Uwe there, who is surprisingly still alive.
Uwe meets with his contacts, including a man named Pjotr, who has an arsenal of weapons. Uwe pays for some high-quality guns, including a rocket launcher that will likely come into play later this season.
That night, the sensors in Kleo’s office go off, indicating a break-in. It turns out to be Sven, which is fortunate because Kleo nearly shot him! Sven apologizes and shares what he’s discovered. He has the police files on the bombing, which is enough to make some progress in their investigation.
Sven explains that he has been working with the CIA all this time, which restricted his actions. However, he promises not to continue and declares his loyalty to Kleo. Unfortunately, they realize that everything might be connected to Kleo’s grandfather, who was responsible for agents in the West.
Kleo thinks she has a lead and immediately asks Sven to leave. With their intel-sharing deal done, Kleo has had enough and, pointing a gun at him, forces Sven out of the house. When the doorbell rings again, Nikolai shows up. He seems to know who Kleo is and is wearing her seahorse necklace. Nikolai, who was seen earlier working with Rose, tells Kleo that this is her “last warning” before walking away.
The Episode Review
It’s evident that the contents of the red suitcase are tied to the past. There’s a lot of drama yet to unfold, and it will be intriguing to see how all the pieces come together by the end of the season.
Despite having fewer episodes this time, the series maintains its unique style and visual design. The vivid colors, especially red and blue, quick cuts, and zoom shots are all still present. Plus, we get to see the return of familiar characters.
Kleo – Season 2 Episode 2 “Object Moni” Recap & Review
In Episode 2 of Kleo season 2, we open with our informant under surveillance, who quickly dispatches two agents attempting to apprehend him. Meanwhile, Kleo descends into the basement with Thilo in tow. He draws her attention to the hippocampus, noting its role in memory, hinting that Kleo’s own past holds key insights into the enigmatic red suitcase. As connections start to form, the mystery deepens, leaving Kleo determined to uncover the truth.
Heading outside, Kleo encounters Rossbach, her former Stasi trainer. Sensing he’s concealing something, she quickly deduces that he’s been in contact with Comrade Nikolai Zhukov, a KGB member. Unfortunately, Rossbach overpowers and chokes her.
Meanwhile, Freddy and Sven pursue their own quirky investigation. They blackmail an agent named Reisser, discovering he’s been bribed to sell files to the KGB. When Sven steps outside the office, he crosses paths with Kleo. They have a brief conversation about trust and their past issues, during which Kleo discreetly slips a tracker into Sven’s jacket.
Sven is quickly captured after Kleo tips off the soldiers outside. He’s taken to the building’s depths and handcuffed. As he’s interrogated, Kleo listens from the car.
Sven bribes his way out, arranging a 50,000 marks exchange with the agent at the fairground supply tunnel at noon. With the meeting set, Kleo heads to the club that night. There, Thilo is with the DJ at the decks. On the dancefloor, Kleo spots someone in a Santa outfit, triggering memories of Nikolai speaking to her as a child, wearing the same costume.
Kleo wakes up, changes outfits, and breaks into the sauna, the original meeting place for the KGB agent. As Kleo turns up the heat, everyone leaves except Alexander Belov.
Alone, Kleo demands the Stasi files. After some persuasion, Belov reveals that he has microfilm copies stored in Karlshorst. Meanwhile, Sven is left waiting at the alternate meeting spot. Rose appears, offering a large sum of money and a CIA badge in exchange for Kleo and the red suitcase. Will Sven accept?
As we consider this, Kleo breaks into the Karlshorst office with Belov. He speaks in code to the receptionist, who triggers a silent alarm. Belov hands over the files, but a chase ensues. Kleo escapes the building with the files, thanks in part to Sven, who arrives in a hilariously satirical scene with his car. Most importantly, Kleo secures the files.
While searching through the documents, Kleo discovers references to O.O.S.A. (Officer on Special Assignment), the US Permanent Mission in West Berlin, and a code name “Bear” with the subject “Moni.” It seems they have the red suitcase. The safe house is likely linked to Moni, but just as they reach this conclusion, Sven is kicked out once again.
As Kleo races off to her next target, Zhukov arrives at the KGB head office with Olga. He kills her by stabbing her with a flag and makes a call, telling the person on the other end that it’s “time to move.”
This appears to be a codeword initiating a series of incidents, including the deaths of 12 people in Moscow. These individuals were linked to the KGB and supported Germany’s reunification. How this will impact the unfolding events remains to be seen.
The Episode Review
The plot involving Kleo seems intricately tied to her training and past, but how this connects to the present events, the red suitcase, and the political maneuvering is still unclear.
The show continues to deliver compelling drama, with the office chase being a standout moment, despite an overuse of shaky cam. Nonetheless, there’s much to enjoy, and the series has enough flair to keep viewers hooked, eager to see what happens next.
Kleo – Season 2 Episode 3 “The Bear” Recap & Review
Episode 3 of Kleo season 2 begins with Kimberley in bed next to the red suitcase, though her exact location remains a mystery. Meanwhile, Kleo arrives in Belgrade and immediately starts gathering information.
She finds Rade, who sings an old chime from the past, triggering Kleo’s memories. Rade reveals that he knew her father and discloses that her father never died in a car crash. Instead, he admits that Kleo’s dad was a traitor, seduced by Western ideology. He had a shoot-to-kill order against him and abandoned Kleo. Although she senses there’s more to the story, Rade refuses to reveal anything further.
Kleo continues to press Rade, mentioning the Moni safehouse and The Bear mission, but he offers little beyond acknowledging the former safehouse. He warns her to be careful and tread lightly. After Kleo leaves, Rade contacts Nikolai to inform him of her location. Nikolai demands compliance, insisting Rade follow his instructions precisely.
Kleo arrives at a hotel, only to find a room already reserved for her with hideous décor. It turns out Sven registered the name, and their rooms are adjacent. Kleo barely acknowledges him, while Sven attempts to impress a woman at the bar, who happens to be Kimberley. His efforts fail, and Kim packs up and leaves. Meanwhile, Kleo realizes that Rade has been lying about her father, knowing now that he never ran away.
Kleo arrives at the old Moni safehouse, with Sven close behind. She encounters a child on the balcony, who turns out to be an informant, evidenced by a sniper in a nearby building. A chase ensues, and after evading capture, Kleo discovers Rade’s lifeless body.
Back at the hotel, Sven talks to Kleo and mentions the deal Rose from the CIA offered him. He reveals that he immediately rejected the offer, emphasizing that he’s not a traitor. Sven wants to prove his loyalty to her, which is why he’s being so forthright. However, Kleo still refuses to trust him despite his efforts.
Meanwhile, Thilo keeps using drugs and getting high with his new friend Ciana.. Kleo calls him, urging him to be vigilant as the CIA is after her. She warns him not to mention anything about her and reminds him that Ciana could be a spy, cautioning him to watch what he says around her.
As for Sven, he keeps trying to woo Kimberley, who invites him to join her on the dancefloor that night. They dance together, and as it transitions to a slow dance, they get close. However, Kleo watches them from the balcony, clearly jealous. She returns to her room to listen to the old cassette Holger dropped off in the previous episode.
Uwe arrives at Margot’s, furious that Kleo has gone to Belgrade. However, Margot remains undeterred, knowing about the recent coup at KGB HQ and Nikolai’s new leadership. She believes their influence over the West will be eliminated. There’s also a new operation called Ludsch, led by Rossbach, Uwe’s former instructor.
After spending the night with Kimberley, Sven quickly grabs the red suitcase and leaves while she is in the shower. Meanwhile, Thilo realizes that Ciana is likely a CIA operative, deducing this from the first three letters of her name. Ciana then goes to see Rose and apologizes for the situation.
Sven hands the briefcase over to Kleo, but it turns out to be a decoy filled with Kimberley’s clothes. Realizing that Kimberley’s name sounds like “Kim-bear-ley,” Sven deduces that she is Agent Bear.
Kleo, armed and determined, confronts Kimberley, who is casually at her desk. Kimberley pretends not to know about Agent Bear until the name is mentioned, leading to a fierce fight. The confrontation escalates into a chase up to the rooftop, where Kleo ultimately prevails. Facing the edge of the building and the threat of falling, Kimberley breaks down and reveals that her Ludsch comrades in Berlin have the files. The plan involves a Stasi and KGB operation to create a Soviet Republic of Germany by merging the Federal Republic and the GDR into the Soviet Union.
The documents were dropped off as planned at a dead-drop location at Ernst-Thalmann-Platz in Berlin. The encounter ends with Kimberley attacking Kleo, who throws her off the rooftop to her death. Shocked, Sven tells Kleo that she needs to start acting like a human. This prompts them to reconsider their alliance, leading them to form a loose partnership and work together.
The Episode Review
At the show’s midway point, we finally get crucial insight into Nikolai’s plans and the overarching strategy behind the pact and the files Kleo is desperate to obtain. The political maneuvering is expertly handled, and visually, the show remains impressive. The recurring motif of reds and blues in nearly every shot adds a slick, stylish touch, reminiscent of season 1.
The action sequences are strong, and the partnership between Sven and Kleo proves surprisingly effective. While Sven often takes on the damsel in distress role during the fights, he isn’t constantly belittled and manages to hold his own alongside Kleo. Their final conversation about humanity is particularly significant, as it seems Kleo realizes she needs Sven as a safety net to prevent her from losing her humanity entirely.
As we head into the dramatic second half of the season, it will be exciting to see how the story unfolds!
Kleo – Season 2 Episode 4 “Beer and Schnapps” Recap & Review
Episode 4 of Kleo season 2 opens with Rossbach meeting Uwe and Margot in a bustling restaurant. They discuss their plan to contact their allies in West Germany to set their scheme in motion. However, their plans are thrown into disarray when one of the women reveals that the pact has been intercepted. The question remains: by whom?
Meanwhile, Kleo and Sven observe the document drop in the park, noting that they aren’t the only ones watching. Several Stasi agents are also on the lookout. Kleo quickly realizes that the drop location is the red bin and is further shocked to see her former colleague Jutta involved in the operation. They watch as Jutta cycles away with an envelope, deepening the mystery.
The pair follows Jutta, and with Sven providing surveillance, Kleo goes in alone to demand answers. Jutta insists that Kleo leave, but it soon becomes evident why— the place is a trap. Despite being outnumbered and facing multiple guns, Sven creates a distraction that allows Kleo to gain the upper hand. In the chaos, Kleo even manages to knock out Rossbach, who accidentally hits his head on the jukebox.
With everyone else dealt with, Jutta is left alone. She reveals that their drop was compromised by an unknown entity, suggesting that someone on the inside has betrayed them, given the mission’s top-secret nature. The grand plan for the Soviet Republic of Germany turns out to be the brainchild of Kleo’s grandfather.
Amidst the turmoil, Kleo finds some closure with Holger, recognizing how much she has changed since their last encounter. Holger urges her to leave her dangerous line of work, but Kleo refuses, feeling that the stakes are too high to simply walk away.
Meanwhile, in Blagoye near the USSR, Nikolai visits his mother, expressing concern about Kleo’s investigation into the past. She advises him to take all necessary measures to keep her from uncovering more.
Meanwhile, Jutta informs Uwe about the interception and Kleo’s interference. She hands him a photograph of Sven, indicating that Sven is now his target.
Uwe hesitates but eventually moves to kill Sven at Kleo’s house. Unaware of this, Kleo sees Sven being escorted out and realizes the danger. They speed away, and Kleo curses her bad luck. Pjotr arrives and reveals that Uwe and Sven are headed to the power plant. Kleo promises to compensate him for the information and rushes back to the garden.
Determined, Kleo confronts Ciana and demands to know Rose’s whereabouts. Knowing Ciana is with the CIA and with a gun pointed at her, Ciana reveals that Rose is at Hotel Teger. Thilo, devastated by the betrayal, struggles with the situation.
Kleo arrives at the hotel and pleads with Rose to help rescue Sven. Aware it’s a trap, Rose still refuses to assist. Kleo then calls Thilo, who creates a diversion while Kleo uses a sniper trick to confront Uwe at gunpoint.
Kleo leaves Thilo behind to monitor Uwe and Mike, who are discussing Sartre and moral ethics while armed with an RPG. Thilo lets them go as Kleo searches the room where Sven was supposed to be, only to find it empty.
As the episode concludes, Kleo and Thilo walk straight into a trap when their car is lifted by a crane. Kleo aims her gun at Uwe, who stands on the ground with an RPG in hand. The question remains: how will they escape this perilous situation unscathed?
The Episode Review
It was almost predictable that Kleo and Thilo would fall into a trap, and the subplot with Ciana feels somewhat lackluster, as the chemistry between her and Thilo doesn’t quite resonate. However, the drama surrounding Kleo’s past is much more compelling, offering a fascinating connection to the concept of the Soviet Republic of Germany.
Kleo – Season 2 Episode 5 “From Russia With Love” Recap & Review
Episode 5 of Kleo season 2 opens with Kleo’s mother arriving at a holiday cabin, where she encounters a mysterious man who is questioning her. It is soon revealed that he is working on behalf of the Minister.
Meanwhile, Kleo and Thilo are unexpectedly rescued by Sven, who distracts Uwe just enough to ruin his shot. However, the arrival of the CIA complicates matters. Despite the presence of four armed agents, Uwe manages to escape, and Kleo is also taken down in the chaos.
Rose believes that Kleo now owes her and explains that their actions were prompted by intercepted communications. These conversations between Ludsch and Moscow indicate a direct link between Kleo and the suitcase, and Rose demands to know more. Kleo, however, refuses to divulge any information, insisting that she will not surrender control of her own fate to the CIA.
As they depart, Rose decides to keep a watchful eye on them from a distance, confident that they will eventually lead her to the documents.
Back at home, Kleo receives a letter from Holger—a final farewell, as he has passed away. In his message, he expresses his wishes for her future happiness. After reading the letter, Kleo has a vision of her father, which she realizes is connected to the dollhouse she has been seeing. As she touches the Christmas tree within the dollhouse, a distorted flashback reveals Nikolai and Kleo’s past interactions, linking them to her family. The flashback shows her witnessing her father’s death at Nikolai’s hands, who was dressed as Santa Claus.
It seems Kleo has repressed this memory, and Nikolai’s theft of her seahorse necklace in the vision might explain her intense reaction to seeing him and her desperate need to retrieve the necklace.
Determined, Kleo knows her next move and, after freeing Sven by shooting his chains, they set out together. Meanwhile, Uwe returns home to Margot. Following a humiliating rejected kiss, he shoots her and then Elrich.
With both Margot and Elrich dead, Uwe hides out in the bathroom. When Kleo returns, she discovers her aunt’s lifeless body on the ground. Jutta arrives and immediately accuses Kleo of the murders, threatening to report her to the Minister. Sven tries to defuse the situation by claiming CIA affiliation, but Jutta dismisses him as a fraud. She then reveals herself as the CIA informant, betraying Nikolai and Rossbach.
Cornered and desperate, Jutta reluctantly discloses her mother’s location—Lake Krewitz, a place we saw earlier in Episode 5. As Kleo and Sven leave, Uwe emerges and kills Jutta, having overheard her confession and realized she is a traitor. Facing mounting chaos and contemplating suicide, Uwe is interrupted by a phone call from Nikolai. Nikolai blames Kleo for the deaths and reveals that he has been in the bathroom all along. He also provides information about their next destination.
Nikolai decides to launch an airstrike on Kleo’s location, which happens to be the same holiday spot she used to visit every summer. Kleo wastes no time confronting her mother, demanding the truth. Her mother confirms the details, explaining that Otto (Kleo’s grandfather) established Ludsch in collaboration with Nikolai, who was the KGB officer overseeing the GDR. After Nikolai shot Fabian, Otto covered up the incident. Fabian had been killed while trying to cross the border illegally. Two days later, Kleo had asked when her father would return, only to realize she had suppressed the memory. She fabricated a story to protect her father’s reputation and preserve Kleo’s memory of him.
It’s revealed that Nikolai didn’t murder Kleo’s father—he is her father. This shocking twist explains the intricate connections and why Kleo struggled to kill him. Before Kleo can fully grasp this revelation, the airstrike hits, destroying the area. Kleo and Sven survive, but her mother is tragically killed. They bury her and honor her memory, setting the stage for the final confrontation.
The Episode Review
In a stunning revelation, it’s uncovered that Nikolai is actually Kleo’s father. This twist ties together the flashbacks and Kleo’s reluctance to kill him, adding a profound layer of understanding just before the finale.
The show finally reveals Kleo’s connections to the past and the true sequence of events, while maintaining a strong blend of action and drama. The high body count is notable, with Jutta and Margot’s deaths feeling somewhat inevitable from the start.
As it stands, the story remains wide open, setting the stage for whatever comes next.
Kleo – Season 2 Episode 6 Recap, Review & Ending Explained
Episode 6 of Kleo Season 2 kicks off the finale with Uwe visiting Nikolai in his office. Continuing their previous phone conversation, Uwe expresses his desire to take over Margot’s position and specifically to be the one to eliminate Kleo. However, his request is denied as Nikolai has assigned Ramona to the task. Uwe is clearly displeased with this decision.
Meanwhile, Kleo puts on her seahorse necklace, a cherished memento symbolizing her mother’s sacrifice. She arrives with Sven at her grandmother Akulina’s home. Despite Akulina’s cheerful demeanor, the duo remains cautious, especially since Akulina was seen advising Sven in the last episode to prevent Kleo from showing up.
As Kleo enters the house, old memories resurface, reminding her of her childhood visits. She remains vigilant, suspecting a potential trap. Akulina insists that it was Kleo’s mother, not Nikolai, who caused the destruction. Kleo remains skeptical and unconvinced.
Akulina presents a photo album featuring images of herself and Nikolai, but Kleo maintains her composure. She firmly declares that she will not allow Nikolai to achieve his goals for the Soviet Republic. Akulina is taken aback by the similarities between Kleo and Nikolai, noting their shared determination and willingness to pursue their respective agendas.
Kleo says her final goodbye to her grandmother, with a tear slipping down her cheek as Akulina concedes defeat. After their parting, Akulina calls Nikolai to inform him of her failure. “She’s a stubborn child,” she admits in frustration.
Kleo and Sven visit Natasha, an old friend of Kleo’s, in Moscow. During their stay, Kleo receives a call from Nikolai. He reveals that he’s her father and that he once intended to name her Hope. This revelation adds a poignant layer to Kleo’s resolve, as she fights against Nikolai’s plans to impose his vision of the Soviet Republic of Germany.
The tension escalates as Kleo and Nikolai draw their battle lines, leaving their confrontation unresolved and setting the stage for a dramatic showdown. One of them will not survive this clash.
Sven approaches Kleo and notes how much she has changed since they first met. He sees the goodness in her, a stark contrast to the cold assassin she was in Season 1. This season has shown her regaining her humanity, evident in her rooftop moments with Sven and her vulnerability when she saw Sven and Kimberley on the dancefloor.
The next morning, Kleo and Sven launch a new operation, targeting the KGB building with chemical warfare. Kleo, disguised as a foreman with a gas mask, infiltrates the building. She makes her way to Nikolai’s office, only to find he’s not there, having gone to the ballet. However, she searches his desk and discovers documents and a photo frame of her family, hinting at a deeper connection to Nikolai.
Unfortunately, Kleo’s moment of vulnerability leads to an ambush by Anja, who attacks from behind. As Anja begins to monologue about family and strength, Uwe arrives and kills Romana. Kleo manages to free herself, and a tense game of cat and mouse ensues through the factory, culminating in a rooftop standoff where Kleo ultimately shoots Uwe dead.
Meanwhile, Sven is confronted by Nikolai, who remains calm despite the gun pointed at him. Sven doesn’t back down; instead, he praises Kleo’s resilience and predicts that she will be the one to defeat Nikolai.
Facing imminent death, Sven surprises everyone by walking away unharmed. When he returns to Natasha, Kleo, who has been wounded by Uwe, is also on her way back. Sven helps patch up her injuries, marking a crucial moment of cooperation between them.
Kleo pieces together the location of the pact by connecting the family photo with the space-themed visuals that have been prominent throughout the season. She recognizes that the tower in the background of the photo is the Monument to the Conquerors of Space, which leads her to the conclusion that this is where the pact is hidden.
Disguised as Soviet officers, Sven and Kleo infiltrate the tower. Meanwhile, Thilo has a brief and uneventful reunion with Ciana, which doesn’t significantly impact the main plot.
Inside the tower, Kleo and Sven locate the safe and successfully retrieve the documents. However, their escape is thwarted by Rose, who has eliminated the tower’s guards and now confronts them at gunpoint. Rose demands the documents for herself and presents a letter she claims will “change her life forever” in exchange.
Kleo refuses to comply with Rose’s demands, and just as she is about to shoot Kleo, Nikolai appears and shoots Rose in the chest. A tense standoff unfolds on the bridge, with Kleo now holding Nikolai at gunpoint.
Nikolai, confident that Kleo won’t shoot, is caught off guard when she decides to burn the pact instead. As the documents go up in flames, Nikolai fires his gun at Kleo. Sven, in a selfless act, leaps in front of her and takes the bullet. Nikolai seizes the opportunity to scramble for the remaining documents, but Kleo takes decisive action and shoots her father dead.
To everyone’s surprise, Sven survives the ordeal. The bullet had passed through the emblem he was wearing, revealing that Kleo had been wearing a bulletproof vest all along. In a poignant moment, Kleo opens up to Sven and kisses him, acknowledging his bravery and the bond they share.
So, what happened with the pact? It turns out that the documents Kleo had were merely a decoy—the real ones were cleverly hidden up her trouser leg. With the genuine documents now in hand, Kleo shares a triumphant smile with Sven as they walk away together, hand in hand.
In a surprising twist, we learn that Kleo has a twin brother who is currently in space. Upon hearing about Nikolai’s death, he informs his contact that he is returning.
As the episode concludes, a final revelation comes to light: Uwe is still alive. He sits up, petting a cat beside him, as the season comes to an end.
The Episode Review
The season 2 finale of Kleo delivers some shocking twists, notably suggesting that the person in the photo on Nikolai’s desk might not be Kleo after all. It’s plausible that it could be her twin brother instead.
The drama surrounding the past and the cosmonaut costume might actually point to her brother being the one in disguise, rather than Kleo. Additionally, Nikolai’s phone conversations about the space program could be connected to Harald, further intertwining the complex web of secrets and revelations.
As Kleo and Sven finally reconnect, it sets the stage for a potential showdown with Harald if Netflix decides to renew the series for a third season. The future of the show hinges on whether it gets greenlit, though.
It would have been great to see a deeper exploration of the final conflict between Kleo and Nikolai, especially given how the confrontation ended abruptly. However, seeing Kleo come full circle and reclaim her lost innocence is a poignant moment, and Sven’s selfless act of taking a bullet for her highlights his unwavering dedication.
Overall, the second season has been just as engaging as the first, and the finale wraps things up with a satisfying conclusion.
