The spinoff series would have centered on Kit Harington’s beloved character Jon Snow from the fantasy show Game of Thrones, which concluded its epic run in 2019.
Winter may be coming, but the show won’t be. The planned Jon Snow spinoff series, intended as a sequel to Game of Thrones following Kit Harington’s character, has been shelved. The actor has confirmed that the series is now “off the table” and won’t be moving forward anytime soon.
In an interview with Screen Rant, Harington discussed the much-discussed spinoff, which was reported in 2022. The series would have focused on Harington’s beloved character Jon Snow from the fantasy show Game of Thrones, which concluded its epic run in 2019.
Kit Harington explained that he had previously refrained from discussing the series as it was still in development, and he didn’t want any premature information to be leaked. However, now that it’s confirmed that the series won’t proceed, he feels more comfortable talking about it.
“I didn’t want the situation where people start speculating, either getting excited about it or hating the idea of it, when it might never happen. During development, you examine every angle and assess its worth. Currently, it’s not feasible.”
He continued, “At the moment, it’s off the table because we couldn’t find the right story that all of us were enthusiastic about. So, we decided to put it on hold for now. There may come a time in the future when we revisit it, but not now. It’s firmly on the shelf.”
Although a Jon Snow-focused spinoff isn’t happening, other Game of Thrones franchise productions are in progress. Prequel series like House of the Dragon, which is preparing for its second season premiere in June, and the upcoming A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, based on the works of George RR Martin, are already in motion. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight is reportedly set to start filming later this year.
