Khakee: The Bengal Chapter (Netflix) Review :-

Khakee returns with its second, standalone season, and it stands out thanks to its stellar performances. From the police to the politicians to the criminals, every character in Khakee: The Bengal Chapter is not only believable but also deeply impactful, making it hard not to take them seriously. Like the first season, this one delves into the darker side of the city it’s set in, guiding us through a perilous journey into the murky world of politics.

The story follows IPS officer Arjun Maitra as he works to rid Kolkata of some of its most brutal crimes, unfolding over seven thrilling episodes full of suspense and anticipation. After the bloody murder of Saptarshi, Maitra senses something larger at play and cleverly turns politician Barun Roy’s words against him to prevent his transfer, setting the stage for a thrilling reversal of fortunes. Maitra’s no-nonsense approach to solving crimes becomes a driving force throughout the series.

While the storyline isn’t entirely new, Jeet, as Arjun Maitra, brings a charm to the character that’s hard to resist. He makes Maitra feel both aspirational and relatable, earning the audience’s deep respect. In contrast, Prosenjit Chatterjee’s portrayal of Barun Roy is, as always, fantastic. As a shady politician, he expertly conveys the danger lurking beneath his calm, controlled exterior. These two are icons of Bengali cinema, with millions of fans, and they once again demonstrate their incredible talent in their respective roles. Lastly, special praise goes to Ritwik Bhowmik, whose portrayal of Sagor Talukdar leaves a lasting impression, making him a standout presence throughout the series.

As for the story, while it’s not particularly groundbreaking, it’s presented in a way that makes it compelling. I still don’t quite understand why so many Bengali characters speak in Hindi, but at least most of the characters are played by actual Bengalis, and their use of the language, whatever amount it may be, feels authentic. This adds a sense of genuineness to the story, preventing it from feeling like a forced cash grab. Ritwik Bhowmik, who has been making waves with his performances in recent years (and rightfully so), is excellent in his role, though let’s be honest, the average neighborhood crook in Kolkata isn’t likely to speak fluent Hindi.

With that aside, the series does a great job of portraying the stronghold that politics has on Bengal’s criminal world. Given the current climate of lawlessness, where the average citizen in Bengal is living in fear, the plot feels particularly relevant. As the story progresses, it shifts into high gear with its rivalries and political intrigue, taking us deeper into the web of corruption and dismantling it piece by piece. The dynamic between Ranjit and Sagor is absolutely gripping, and Arjun’s smart, at times sadistic, tactics to bring down the entire operation keep you hooked. The series delivers a thrilling ride that keeps you on the edge of your seat, making it hard to look away.

Khakee: The Bengal Chapter (Netflix) Trailor :-

In the end, Khakee: The Bengal Chapter wraps up on a thrilling, though somewhat overdramatic, note. It does an excellent job of maintaining its momentum throughout, keeping you hooked to the point where you’re eager to dive into the next episode as soon as one finishes. The only weak link for me was Chitrangada Singh, whose performance felt stiff and forgettable. But aside from that, this series is definitely a winner in my book.

Final Thought

Neeraj Pandey delivers another gripping entertainer, this time weaving a complex and thrilling tale around the politics of Bengal, a world we know all too well. While the story may feel familiar, it’s presented in a highly engaging and fast-paced manner. With stellar performances from the entire cast, it’s definitely a series worth watching.
