Set in the aftermath of the 1993 Bombay blasts, ‘Kathmandu Connection’ unfolds with three significant events occurring in the same year. Sandip Garg, the lead investigator in the blasts, is murdered on March 25th. Subsequently, Dharmendra Arora, a prominent hotelier and businessman, is abducted on August 26th, while around the same time, renowned journalist Shivani Bhatnagar finds herself being stalked. Meanwhile, DCP Samarth Kaushik and CBI officer Hitesh Aggrawal embark on parallel investigations, discovering a common thread linking these events to Kathmandu, Nepal’s capital. As Kaushik follows the leads to Kathmandu, will he be able to unravel the mystery behind these nefarious acts?
Director Sachin Pathak’s series sheds light on interconnected criminal cases potentially linked to the 1993 Bombay blasts, offering a glimpse into one of the nation’s darkest years. The narrative weaves three parallel investigations across borders, delivering a gripping storyline. While the series possesses the elements of a solid, suspenseful thriller, it falls short in delivering the depth and conviction required to depict such real-life incidents. The screenplay initially falters in connecting the dots to Kathmandu, and exchanges between characters feel repetitive. However, the latter part of the series picks up momentum, particularly in the final two episodes, with ample twists and turns to captivate viewers.
Amit Sial’s performance steals the spotlight, portraying DCP Samarth with authenticity and nuance, balancing strength as a cop with vulnerability as a father and husband. He anchors the uneven narrative with his honest portrayal. Supported by Anurag Arora as police superintendent Sharvan Mishra and Gopal Datt as CBI Officer Hitesh Aggrawal, the cast delivers commendable performances. While Aksha Pardasany captures the essence of news anchor Shivani Bhatnagar, her chemistry with Sial feels forced. Anshumaan Pushkar, known for his role in ‘Jamtara: Sabka Number Ayega,’ falls short in portraying Sunny Sharma convincingly, lacking the demeanor of a seasoned conman.
Despite occasional lapses in writing and a generic storyline, ‘Kathmandu Connection’ offers a decent one-time watch, leaving room for further exploration in future seasons.
