Kaagaz 2 Story:-
The topic of human rights violations is sure to resonate with anyone who has experienced any form of social injustice in their life.
A middle-class father loses his only daughter in a tragic incident during a political rally. Determined to challenge the system, he teams up with a lawyer and the lawyer’s son to fight for fundamental rights.
Uday Raj Singh (Darshan Kumaar) leaves the Indian Military Academy due to a lack of discipline and unexpectedly reconnects with his estranged father, Raj Narayan (Anupam Kher), ailing lawyer. Despite harboring resentment for his father’s past abandonment of him and his mother Radhika (Neena Gupta), Uday has a change of heart upon witnessing his father’s dedication to representing Mr. Rastogi (the late Satish Kaushik). Mr. Rastogi seeks justice for the tragic loss of his daughter during a political rally, driving a relentless pursuit for accountability.
While the film occasionally teeters on the edge of melodrama, it manages to pull itself back in the nick of time. Tropes like videos demanding justice going viral on social media and crowds rallying with placards for justice may hint at unimaginative writing, yet the narrative offers enough to keep viewers engaged. However, the same cannot be said for the forgettable songs featured in the film.
The film excels in portraying the sensitive and subtle dynamics between the father and son. The courtroom scenes are marked by sharp writing, with compelling arguments presented by both sides, making for a captivating viewing experience. Satish Kaushik’s final monologue neatly ties up the narrative.
The veteran actors, Satish Kaushik and Anupam Kher, carry the weight of the film with their seasoned performances in dramatic roles. Darshan Kumaar delivers a nuanced portrayal of a character grappling with his relationship with his estranged father, showcasing sincerity in his performance. Kiran Kumar as the judge, Anang Desai as a politician, and Neena Gupta as Uday’s mother also deliver commendable performances in their respective roles.
The theme of human rights violations resonates deeply with anyone who has faced social injustice, evoking heartfelt moments throughout the film, particularly in its latter half, which are likely to evoke emotions and possibly leave viewers teary-eyed. Furthermore, the fact that this marks actor Satish Kaushik’s final film serves as an additional reason to watch the movie.
