Jockey Review :-

In Jockey, the goats settle their disputes more clearly than their owners, though only slightly. Director Pragabhal explores a rarely seen side of Indian cinema: the goat-fighting tradition in Madurai, where men risk their reputation and pride on horned animals trained to clash until one gives in. Filming these scenes took over three years, and the effort is evident—getting real goats to act convincingly was no easy task.

Ramar (Yuvan Krishna) arrives late to a fight in Usilampatti, traveling in a share-auto and getting teased before even entering the arena. His black goat, Kaali, faces off against Anugundu, the champion of the arrogant Ghabra Karthi (Ridhaan Krishnas). After seventeen intense rounds, Kaali breaks one of Anugundu’s horns, making Ramar the new Jockey of Madurai. Karthi takes the loss badly, sparking a cycle of humiliation, revenge, and escalating violence. He uses dirty tactics to regain his status—hiding a hook during a rematch, threatening Ramar’s sister at night, and destroying trophies. The rivalry consumes both men, even as Ramar tries to leave the circuit after Anugundu’s accidental death.

The goat fights are the real highlight of Jockey. Raw and intense, filmed with real animals, they make you feel both fascinated and uneasy. NS Uthayakumar’s cinematography captures the dust, sweat, and gritty Madurai gangster energy in the arenas. The final battle stands out, with live sound adding extra intensity. This is a film built on hard work, and you can feel Pragabhal’s effort in coordinating the animals, cameras, and actors to create each scene.

Jockey Trailor :-

The human characters, sadly, don’t match the intensity of the goats. Yuvan and Ridhaan play similar roles: hotheaded, impulsive, and quick to fight. Their supporting cast mostly acts as bystanders or cheerleaders rather than fully developed characters. Madhu Sudhan Rao plays the elder peacemaker, showing up repeatedly to stop fights, give the same lecture, and watch the cycle repeat. The romance with Meenu (Ammu Abhirami) feels added just to break the monotony, not as a natural part of the story. It’s clear the script was built around the action rather than the other way around. Sakthi Balaji’s music, however, is reliable.
