Jigra Review :-

Revenge and prison break dramas thrive on strong scripts and gripping narratives that keep viewers on the edge of their seats. Director Vasan Bala’s thriller, Jigra, begins with a powerful introduction to Satya (Alia Bhatt), a resilient young woman determined to protect her younger brother, Ankur (Vedang Raina), at all costs.

When Ankur is wrongfully accused of drug charges on the harsh Southeast Asian island of Hanshi Dao, Satya becomes a force to be reckoned with. Undeterred by the strict law enforcement that imposes death sentences for narcotic offenses, she sets out on a bold mission to free him. Joining forces with retired gangster Bhatia (Manoj Pahwa) and ex-cop Muthu (Rahul Ravindran), Satya crafts an intricate plan to break four young men—including Ankur—out of prison after the legal system fails them.

The premise holds immense potential to explore the journey of a sister making morally questionable choices while confronting a foreign land’s rigid system. However, what should have set the stage for an engaging and awe-inspiring experience quickly devolves into chaos. Written by Vasan Bala and Debashish Irengbam, the story becomes one-dimensional, prioritizing stylized action over substance. A parallel prison break subplot further complicates matters, and Satya’s responses to her challenges grow repetitive.

Despite these issues, the film features moments of brilliance, thanks to cinematographer Swapnil S. Sonawane and action director Vikram Dahiya, who deliver slick and well-executed stunts and action sequences. Scenes like Satya sliding down a sloped rooftop and the impressive pyrotechnics stand out. Yet, the film is bogged down by drawn-out sequences, with much of the focus resting on Satya’s daring feats rather than the overarching plot.

Jigra Trailor :-

Alia Bhatt shines in her role as both an action star and a deeply emotional character. She executes death-defying stunts with impressive skill while effectively conveying feelings of anger, helplessness, and resilience. Vedang Raina delivers a solid performance as the brother, and Manoj Pahwa, portraying Satya’s accomplice whose son is also an inmate, deserves special recognition for his compelling performance.

Final Thought

While Jigra features moments of brilliance, especially in Alia Bhatt’s outstanding performance and the impressive action sequences, its chaotic narrative and emphasis on style over substance detract from its overall impact. A more streamlined storyline and a stronger premise could have significantly elevated the film.
