Jackpot (Netflix) Review :-
In the aftermath of The Great Depression of 2026, aspiring actress Katie Kim (Awkwafina) relocates to LA in 2030, eager to pursue her dreams. However, her hopes quickly take a turn when she becomes entangled in the chaos of the ‘Grand Lottery.’
During an audition, Katie accidentally scans her Airbnb host’s (Ayden Mayeri) lottery ticket, inadvertently activating it with her own details. To her shock, she wins the largest lottery ever recorded and soon finds herself targeted by ruthless lottery hunters intent on killing her to claim the prize.
As Katie Kim tries to escape the relentless lottery hunters, she discovers a loophole in the Grand Lottery rules: she can’t be killed with a gun. Seizing the opportunity, she makes a break for it and encounters Noel (John Cena), a dedicated protector of lottery targets. Noel agrees to help her, demanding a 10% commission for his services, and reveals that the Grand Lottery’s drone updates her location to her pursuers every few minutes. They are now fugitives on the run together.
At one point, Noel is compelled to call in his rival, Louis Lewis (Simu Liu), for assistance during a particularly precarious situation, which features a hilarious cameo by Machine Gun Kelly playing himself. While Louis Lewis’s team comes to their rescue, it becomes clear that Louis himself is also interested in the prize money.
Jackpot (Netflix) Trailor :-
True to its action-comedy genre, Jackpot delivers a steady stream of both high-energy action and punchlines, keeping the momentum going with successive set pieces. However, as the film progresses, the repetitive nature of the scenes starts to wear thin, leading to a sense of exhaustion.
The plot is fairly predictable, offering few surprises but plenty of twists to keep the story moving. This results in a mash-up of outrageous jokes and recurring action sequences, with some moments landing well and others falling flat. Despite its flaws, the film can be seen as a satirical take on a future where the rules allow for extreme measures to secure wealth, providing a touch of social commentary amid the chaos.
Awkwafina shines with her strong screen presence and impeccable comic timing, excelling in both her humorous moments and action scenes. Simu Liu is a standout as the villainous Louis, providing plenty of laughs, while John Cena effectively balances humor and action. Action choreographer James Young skillfully plays to each actor’s strengths—showcasing Awkwafina’s clumsy charm as she navigates tricky situations, and utilizing Cena’s brawn for the action-packed sequences.
Overall, Jackpot is a goofy, occasionally cringeworthy film that remains true to its promise of lighthearted entertainment without striving for anything more.
“Jackpot” is now streaming on Netflix.
