Industry (AmazonPrimeVideo) Review :-

Industry (AmazonPrimeVideo) Co-created by Navjot Gulati (known for ‘Jai Mummy Di’) and Shreyansh Pandey (renowned for ‘Gullak’ and ‘Permanent Roommates’), ‘Industry’ presents a raw glimpse into the relentless pursuit and unwavering spirit of aspiring Bollywood artists. Spanning five episodes, this series peels back the glossy veneer of the film industry to expose the harsh realities faced by those striving for fame and success. While its concept is compelling, the execution of the plot falls short. Nonetheless, commendable performances from the cast elevate its watchability.

Set in Mumbai, the epitome of dreams, the story centers around Aayush (portrayed by Gagan Arora), a budding screenwriter determined to pitch his script “Dhoom Dhadaka” to various producers, despite encountering numerous obstacles. Interweaving personal relationships, professional hurdles, and the perpetual struggle between triumph and defeat, the narrative resonates profoundly with the aspirations and challenges of countless hopefuls who flock to Mumbai in pursuit of their Bollywood dreams.

The subplot featuring Aayush and his estranged friend Romil Jha (played by Jitendra Singh Rajput) remains underdeveloped and misses the opportunity to serve as a potent metaphor for the city’s transformative power and the film industry. Occasionally, the storyline ventures into improbable scenarios, affecting the narrative’s pace and distracting viewers from its otherwise down-to-earth storytelling.

Abhishek Dixit’s dialogues skillfully blend original writing with nods to Bollywood, incorporating numerous references, including a poignant line inspired by Irrfan Khan’s character in ‘The Lunchbox’: “Sometimes, even the wrong train takes you to the right station.”

Gagan Arora delivers a standout performance as Aayush, skillfully navigating the character’s emotional highs and lows, effectively drawing the audience into his journey. Ankita Goraya brings depth to Gayatri Shah, Aayush’s friend and co-writer, with a convincing portrayal, while Asha Negi’s depiction of Sanya Sen, a TV actress making her mark in Bollywood, enriches the narrative with authenticity.

Chunky Panday makes a memorable impact in his role as producer Rakesh Raman, despite its brevity, and Lakshya Kochhar’s portrayal of Rocky Wadhwani, an aspiring actor from a privileged background, is commendable. The series benefits from special appearances by industry figures like Kunal Kapoor, Abhishek Banerjee, Hansal Mehta, and Siddharth Sengupta, which further enrich the storyline.

Despite its flaws, ‘Industry’ provides an authentic glimpse into the intricacies of the showbiz world from the perspective of an aspiring screenwriter, making it a worthwhile one-time watch. Regrettably, the show about writers lacks strong support from its own core writing department.
