I Wish You Had Told Me Review :-

I Wish You Had Told Me tells the story of a son uncovering a hidden side of his father’s life. Seph, a young pastor, is grieving the loss of his father, Otep, a devout church leader.

At Otep’s funeral, a woman reveals that he was gay, shocking both the family and the church community. Seph, who has always followed his faith without question, is forced to rethink everything he believed. This revelation leads him to explore his father’s past—and his own identity—more deeply.

I Wish You Had Told Me is a touching film that achieves its goal of telling a moving story. It captures the sadness and longing in the life of Otep, a gay man who never got to be with the person he truly loved. Growing up in a traditional and conservative Filipino family, Otep had to hide his true identity and even marry someone he didn’t love.

Despite this, his love for his son was real. In the end, he chose to raise his son and provide him a life of care and guidance, even if it meant sacrificing his own happiness.

The film does an excellent job of moving between past and present to tell both the father’s and son’s stories at the same time. We see Otep pouring his heart into the love letters he wrote to his pen pal, while also following Seph’s emotional journey. Seph struggles to accept his father’s true self but eventually embraces him with love and understanding. The heartfelt moments, especially between father and son, are the most moving parts of the movie.

The cinematography is stunning, beautifully capturing both the Philippines and Spain. The wide landscapes of Spain are particularly striking, with the scenes among the olive trees standing out as the most memorable.

I Wish You Had Told Me Trailor :-

The ending is satisfying, especially when a truly cruel man faces justice. While Otep never experiences his true love in real life, the film gives the comforting feeling that he and his partner are united in spirit, which keeps the story emotionally powerful until the very end.

Final Thought

I really enjoyed this movie because of its hopeful tone. It was also refreshing that the film doesn’t criticize religion or show it in a negative light. Instead, it emphasizes that love is a central message of faith, while the real problem comes from people misinterpreting those teachings to suit their own biases. What made the story truly captivating, however, is the bond between Otep and Seph—their father-son relationship is deeply touching and heartfelt.
