In “Hum Bhi Akele, Tum Bhi Akele,” the performances are strikingly natural, with the actors effortlessly embodying their characters, delivering scenes that tug at the heartstrings. The on-screen chemistry between Anshuman Jha and Zareen Khan propels the narrative forward. While Jha’s portrayal is reliably competent, it’s Zareen Khan who steals the show with her unexpected portrayal. Radiant and more at ease than ever, Khan fully embraces Mansi’s idiosyncrasies and potential with palpable relief.
Following a heartbreak, Veer resolves to accompany Mansi to McLeod Ganj to reunite her with her beloved Nikki. Along the journey, the two form a bond, spending time together and realizing a profound connection between them.
However, when Nikki also declines to acknowledge their relationship publicly, the ‘soul mates’ opt to cohabit.
But that’s just the beginning of the drama.
After several months together, Mansi yearns for her former love, while Veer finds himself growing attached to her and fearful of losing his partner.
The screenplay, crafted by director Harish Vyas and Susan Fernandes, at times echoes the essence of Jab We Met with its LGBTQ twist. Mansi exudes exuberance and messiness, contrasting Veer’s reserved and meticulous demeanor. She embraces her true self openly, unlike Veer, who has concealed his identity from his family.
With heartfelt sincerity, we bestow the film with 3 stars. Directed by Harish Vyas, “Hum Bhi Akele, Tum Bhi Akele” is available for streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
