Michael Bryce’s hopes for a peaceful vacation are shattered when Sonia Kincaid forcefully recruits him to rescue her kidnapped husband, Darius Kincaid. As the couple desperately seeks to reunite amidst their efforts to start a family, they become entangled in a dangerous situation. Interpol agent Bobby O’Neill (Frank Grillo) apprehends them, tasking them with stopping Aristotle Papadopoulos (Antonio Banderas), who seeks revenge on Europe for sanctions imposed against him.

While the plot may seem hastily assembled and somewhat nonsensical, it serves as a vehicle for injecting action and comedy into the narrative, the two key elements driving this sequel forward. Director Patrick Hughes and writer Tom O’Connor maintain elements from the original film, such as Michael’s fixation on achieving a ‘Triple A’ security rating and his tendency to come to Darius’ aid, setting off a chain of chaotic events. This time, however, it’s Sonia who takes charge, portrayed with gusto by Salma Hayek.

Despite occasional moments of annoyance, Hayek manages to deliver laughs, though some scenes with Jackson verge on cringeworthy. Samuel L. Jackson offers a familiar performance, much like the plot itself. Ryan Reynolds once again shines as the earnest security agent navigating through the twists and turns of his tumultuous life. Antonio Banderas excels as the villain, injecting the film with a sense of menace, while Morgan Freeman’s appearance adds a refreshing twist just as the story begins to feel repetitive.

While the action may not be overly slick, the comedic elements compensate for any shortcomings, ensuring an entertaining viewing experience. Overall, ‘Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard’ may be a busy sequel with an abundance of moving parts and star power, but it manages to deliver on its promise of entertainment.
