As the investigation progresses, cracks in their marriage surface, casting suspicion on Rani as the prime suspect. Her fleeting affair with Rishi’s cousin Neil (played by Harshvardhan Rane) only adds fuel to the already blazing fire of speculation.

Rani (played by Taapsee Pannu) finds herself in a marriage that lacks the excitement of the gritty crime novels she adores. While Rani is bold and alluring, with a history of affairs, her husband Rishu (portrayed by Vikrant Massey) is the epitome of a good-natured nerd who sticks to the straight and narrow. However, Rani’s life takes an unexpected turn when Rishu’s attractive and rebellious cousin Neel (played by Harshvardhan Rane) pays them a visit.

Director Vinil Mathew and writer Kanika Dhillon skillfully juxtapose Rani and Rishu’s contrasting worlds, capturing both the simplicity of small-town life and an ominous sense of impending disaster. This contrast infuses the film’s nonlinear narrative with tension and suspense, keeping the audience engaged and intrigued as the characters navigate love, lust, and desire.

At the core of this twisted love story are complex emotions and flawed characters. Taapsee Pannu delivers a compelling performance as the enigmatic Rani, skillfully portraying her character’s unpredictable trajectory with nuanced expressions. Vikrant Massey effectively embodies the reserved yet assertive Rishu, conveying volumes through subtle gestures and expressions.

Kanika Dhillon’s well-crafted characters allow the actors ample room to develop their roles throughout the narrative, complemented by Ankana Joshi’s vibrant dialogue, attributed to the fictional novelist ‘Panditji.’ Harshvardhan Rane delivers a noteworthy performance within his limited scope.

Yamini Das shines as Rishu’s boisterous mother, providing moments of comic relief and innocence amidst the film’s darker themes. Amit Trivedi’s music and Jayakrishna Gummadi’s cinematography enhance the film’s contrasting tones.

While ‘Haseen Dillruba’ may occasionally venture into the realm of the improbable, it remains a deliciously dark and defiant love story with a thrilling twist that never fails to captivate.
