Hai Junoon (JioHotstar) Review :-

Watching 20 episodes of young adults acting out, engaging in petty rivalries, can feel like a test of patience—especially for anyone who’s long moved past that phase. By the time you hit episode 10 of Hai Junoon, the realization that there are still 10 more episodes ahead can feel downright exhausting.

The series follows a group of college students who struggle to control their impulses, splitting into two rival factions as they compete for a prestigious award. It’s a familiar story we’ve seen many times before, but here it’s drawn out with an abundance of characters and an overwhelming number of issues to address. The show attempts to tackle almost every problem imaginable in great detail, which unfortunately leads to a bloated runtime that can drag on.

This isn’t to say the series is completely bad, but the excessive drama often makes you question your own patience. The show seems to do itself a disservice by juggling too many storylines, which weigh down the runtime unnecessarily. The plot doesn’t need 20 episodes of conflict, and the constant squabbles quickly become cringeworthy. Since it’s clear that everything will resolve happily in the end, there’s little suspense or real tension to keep you hooked.

The musical numbers offer a bit of fun, mostly reimagining classic songs in fresh ways that add some energy to the episodes—though they’re not especially memorable. Meanwhile, the teachers’ conflicts feel tired and clichéd. Jacqueline Fernandez’s entire storyline is a wild, unnecessary detour that adds little to the show. As for Neil Nitin Mukesh, it’s frustrating to see him repeatedly typecast as the overbearing dictator—there are definitely more nuanced ways to portray adult conflict without resorting to madness.

Regarding the rest of the cast, many of their struggles come across as genuine and relatable, but at times it feels like these issues were included just to tick boxes. While most of the themes blend together and are important to address, the sheer volume makes the series seem a bit overambitious. That said, the students’ performances do keep things engaging, even though I found the rivalry between the Supersonics and the Misfits to be surprisingly lackluster. There’s little tension or excitement in their conflict because, despite sharing the same goal, their approaches to competition are so different that the clash never really sparks.

Final Thought

Hai Junoon is decent enough, but for me, it’s a one-time watch. It works well as light background entertainment, though if you really pay attention, it can start to feel frustrating. That said, there isn’t much beneath the surface—the characters and storylines follow a very familiar path and don’t offer any real suspense or moments that keep you hooked.
