Gunner (AmazonPrimeVideo) Review :-

Gunner is the kind of film so bad it’s almost entertaining. With lackluster performances, a flimsy screenplay, cringe-worthy CGI, and a painfully generic plot, it feels like a desperate attempt to recreate the over-the-top action films of the ’80s that tried to capitalize on the Rambo craze. Unfortunately, it fails spectacularly, offering little more than a string of misfires. Even the presence of the legendary Morgan Freeman feels wasted, as his role is barely fleshed out. The dialogue is so absurd at times that it’ll have you laughing for all the wrong reasons. This rescue mission spirals completely out of control, leaving viewers wondering why the film was ever made. Gunner is a total misstep—one to skip and forget.

The story follows Colonel Lee Gunner (Luke Hemsworth), a war veteran who comes back to the town of Clinton after serving time in prison. Though estranged from his wife, he hopes to reconnect with his sons, Travis (Connor DeWolfe) and Luke (Grant Feely). To rebuild their bond, he plans a camping trip with them and his best friend, Jon (Barry Jay Minoff). While at the campsite, Jon notices a dried-up creek and discovers a long pipe draining water into a nearby factory. Upon further investigation, Gunner uncovers a drug factory run by dangerous criminals. When he tries to warn the sheriff, his sons are kidnapped. Fueled by rage, Gunner vows revenge and sets out to track down Dobbs (Mykel Shannon Jenkins), the man responsible for the abduction. His first move is to break Dobbs’s father, Kendrick Ryker (Morgan Freeman), out of prison, hoping to use him as leverage in his quest.

Gunner is a complete disaster, and not even the presence of two credible stars can save it. The lead character, portrayed as a devoted father, fails to evoke any emotional depth due to a flat, one-dimensional performance from Luke Hemsworth, making his reunion with his sons feel entirely unearned. Morgan Freeman, despite his legendary status, is reduced to a mere cameo, with barely fifteen minutes of screen time. The poorly written script leaves him with little to work with, and he cannot elevate the film. The CGI in the parachute sequence is particularly glaring, showcasing the film’s limited budget and the filmmakers’ misguided attempt to include ambitious stunts using cheap digital effects. The lesson here is clear: when working with a constrained budget, ambitious CGI only highlights the film’s flaws.

Gunner (AmazonPrimeVideo) Trailor :-

Final Thought

The film feels formulaic from start to finish, with a predictable plot that fails to generate any real excitement. It offers little of substance and is best skipped. The real mystery, however, is how Morgan Freeman ended up involved in such a lackluster project.
