In the Gundam franchise, the Principality of Zeon is often portrayed as the antagonist, but this installment offers a different perspective. We follow Iria Sorari, a Zeon pilot leading the Red Wolves division, as her forces find themselves trapped on the European front. She and her squadron launch a daring mission to rescue her people from the Earth Federation forces. However, they are unprepared for the arrival of the Gundam EX, a formidable threat poised to annihilate everything in its path.
This series effectively explores the human side of war, illustrating that even within the Federation, there are individuals who long for peace and yearn to return to their families. Iria emerges as a deeply relatable protagonist, fighting not out of desire but necessity. Haunted by a tragic past where she lost part of her family, she battles to secure a better future for her son and the people of Zeon.
Iria is an exceptional fighter, consistently demonstrating her prowess by decisively taking down her enemies. She recognizes the complexities of human conflict and understands that inaction won’t lead to resolution. As a result, she takes charge, driven not by revenge but by a sense of duty.

While the plot may not break new ground, it remains engaging. Fans of military sci-fi and mecha shows might predict some of the twists, but that doesn’t diminish the entertainment value of the series. One significant drawback is the computer animation, which some viewers may find unappealing. Additionally, I wasn’t particularly fond of the character designs and feel they could have been improved. However, if you can overlook these issues, this series offers an enjoyable experience, even for those unfamiliar with the franchise.

I genuinely enjoyed this show and was particularly pleased with the conclusion. While it was somewhat predictable, I appreciated the choices they made. Overall, it was a satisfying experience, and even if you’re not familiar with Gundam, you’re likely to enjoy it. It might even inspire you to check out the original anime!
