“Gullak” returns with the Mishra family, led by husband Santosh Mishra (Jameel Khan), wife Shanti Mishra (Geetanjali Kulkarni), and their two children. Their eldest son, Annu (Vaibhav Raj Gupta), grapples with career setbacks, while the younger son, Aman (Harsh Mayar), navigates his upcoming board exams. Together, they embody the essence of middle-class Indian families.
Directed by Palash Vaswani and written by Durgesh Singh, the series offers a glimpse into the daily life of the Mishra family in a small town. Like its first season, this sequel maintains a consistent presence of all central characters, narrated through a clay piggy bank, Gullak (voiced by Shivankit Singh Parihar). The screenplay keeps viewers engaged, though the heightened emotional drama occasionally extends episode runtimes. Nonetheless, the series’ simplicity remains captivating. Anurag Saikia’s background score complements the narrative, accompanied by a catchy title track by Jazim Sharma and Simran Hora, while Kailash Kher’s song “Tu Mera Raazi” leaves a lasting impression.
Jameel Khan delivers a compelling performance as the authoritative father, Santosh Mishra, while Geetanjali Kulkarni shines as the quintessential Indian mother, Shanti, with her witty exchanges adding humor. Sunita Rajwar impresses as the annoying and gullible neighbor. Vaibhav Raj Gupta portrays Annu convincingly, but it’s Harsh Mayar who steals the spotlight as the quirky teenager, Aman, with his impeccable dialogue delivery and expressions. Overall, the entire cast delivers realistic performances, making it difficult to single out any standout.
Similar to its predecessor, this season captures the essence of small-town life with humor, wit, and abundant love. In conclusion, “Gullak” offers a delightful viewing experience well worth your time.
