Films that revolve around thwarted terrorist attacks or the capture of militants often come packed with intensity, patriotism, and suspense. While many of these real-life operations make headlines, the finer details behind them often remain hidden from public view. Ground Zero, directed by Tejas Prabha Vijay Deoskar, brings one such high-risk, lesser-known mission to the forefront. The film follows BSF Commandant Narendra Nath Dhar Dubey and his dogged pursuit of the elusive Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorist Ghazi Baba—a man so hard to track, he might as well be a ghost.

Set in August 2001, the film opens with a chilling scene in which terrorist Ahmed (Hanan) radicalizes young Kashmiri boys, including Hussain (Mir Mehrooz), pushing them from stone-pelting to cold-blooded shootings of jawans at point-blank range. From there, screenwriters Sanchit Gupta and Priyadarshee Srivastava piece together a taut thriller—one that dives into intercepted calls, misleading trails, bureaucratic roadblocks, and internal power games that continually test Narendra’s resolve and threaten to derail the mission at every turn.

Amid all the tension and action, Ground Zero never loses sight of its emotional core. At the center is Narendra’s determination not just to eliminate threats, but to guide young boys away from violence before it’s too late. His bond with Hussain is explored with genuine depth, adding a layer of compassion to the otherwise gritty narrative. While the film includes familiar themes—terrorists preying on vulnerable youth, the silent strength of security families, and the heavy emotional toll of duty—these elements are handled with subtlety, never veering into melodrama.

Though the pacing lags at moments, the story remains compelling, unfolding as a calculated slow burn. The suspense builds gradually, pulling the audience in, and ultimately delivers a gripping payoff as the pursuit of Ghazi Baba reaches its dramatic conclusion.

Kamaljeet Negi’s cinematography beautifully captures the duality of the Kashmir valley—its haunting stillness and awe-inspiring natural beauty. Complementing the visuals, John Stewart Eduri’s background score, layered with electric guitar riffs, adds an intense, immersive texture to the film’s atmosphere. The soundtrack further deepens the emotional resonance, with Tanishk Bagchi’s Lahoo and So Lene De, along with Sunny Inder’s Fateh, standing out as powerful and moving compositions.

Commandant Dubey is portrayed with admirable restraint, steering clear of exaggerated heroism. His bravery is unquestionable, but it’s presented with a realism that makes the character all the more compelling. Emraan Hashmi brings quiet intensity and authenticity to the role, embodying a man driven by unwavering purpose. Sai Tamhankar leaves a mark in her limited screen time as his wife, while Zoya Hussain delivers a sharp and convincing performance as Adilaa, a member of the Intelligence team. Supporting roles by Deepak Paramesh, Lalit Prabhakar, and Guneet Singh as BSF jawans, along with Mukesh Tiwari and Rahul Vohra as senior officials, round out the cast with solid performances.
