Good Fortune Review :-
The concept of swapping lives to learn gratitude is nothing new in film. Yet in Good Fortune, writer-director and lead actor Aziz Ansari brings a fresh twist to the familiar premise. Arj is a struggling man juggling odd jobs and living out of his car — a life he clearly hates. When his car is towed due to multiple parking tickets, leaving him homeless, Gabriel steps in. The angel swaps Arj’s body with Jeff, an absurdly wealthy investor, intending to teach him that money doesn’t equal happiness. But, as expected, the plan quickly goes awry.
Unlike many films in this genre, Good Fortune doesn’t paint wealth as secretly miserable. Arj relishes his new life, refusing to switch back, while Jeff becomes desperate to reclaim his old existence. Meanwhile, Gabriel is stuck on Earth, stripped of his powers and forced to live like a regular human. Watching how Gabriel and Jeff end up as unlikely roommates — one under the comforter, the other on top of it — and how the trio navigates their swapped lives makes for a fun, often surprisingly insightful, ride.
Beneath its comedy, the film delivers a sharp critique of the modern gig economy. Arj juggles multiple menial tasks through a job app — standing in lines, cleaning garages, delivering food — all while holding down a hardware store position. Meanwhile, Gabriel struggles to make ends meet as a human, realizing how little is left after taxes, health insurance, and social security deductions. Everyone seems trapped working multiple jobs just to survive, with no time for rest or joy. The movie doesn’t romanticize these hardships but sends a pointed message to employers: treat your workers with empathy, or face the consequences.
Good Fortune Trailor :-
Tonally, the film remains light and playful, packed with laughs, though its pacing falters at times — particularly in the middle, when Arj revels in Jeff’s luxurious lifestyle. Despite this lull, it picks back up, delivering a warm, heartfelt message by the end.
Final Thought
Keanu Reeves is charming as Gabriel, the “dum-dum angel” with tiny wings whose heavenly duties include saving people texting while driving. His comic struggles with human annoyances — from hunger and sweating to navigating taxes — make him both funny and endearing. Aziz Ansari and Seth Rogen shine with impeccable comedic timing and believable performances, while Keke Palmer stands out as the passionate hardware store worker advocating for labor rights. Sandra Oh leaves a lasting impression despite her brief but memorable role.
