Crafted by Shreyasi Sharma, ‘Girls Hostel’ season 3 resumes the narrative with Zahira (Parul Gulati) assuming the role of student council president following her victory over Ramya (Shreya Mehta) in the elections. Alongside Richa (Ahsaas Channa) and Mili (Simran Natekar), Zahira endeavors to enhance their standing in the student council and organizes a ‘Talent Show.’ However, the challenges posed by inadequate resources such as water and electricity in the dental college hostel, compounded by obstacles from Dr. Sarla Desai (Jayati Bhatia), the college dean, impede their progress.

Under the direction of Hanish D Kalia, the show continues to tackle a myriad of relatable issues like gender fluidity, parental expectations versus personal aspirations, and anxiety disorders across its five episodes. These themes are seamlessly integrated into the students’ experiences, ensuring a story that resonates with authenticity. While the challenges of hostel life take a backseat, the narrative shifts focus to the talent show and the girls’ internal conflicts.
As freshmen enter the dentistry program, senior bonds strengthen, and each character’s personal journey unfolds as a subplot. Zahira grapples with academic pressures and anxiety, Jo (Srishti Srivastava) pursues her dreams, Mili struggles to be taken seriously, Richa strives to maintain control, and Ramya battles between her ambitions and her father’s expectations. The series poses the central question of whether they can overcome their internal struggles and emerge victorious.
The dialogues are impactful, infused with organic humor and sharp wit. The performances of the senior girls’ gang (Ahsaas Channa, Srishti Shrivastava, Parul Gulati, and Simran Natekar) feel authentic, lending credence to their characters’ experiences. However, this season falls short of fully engaging viewers in the characters’ personal stories compared to its predecessors.
Trupti Khamkar shines once again as the hostel warden, delivering the best one-liners with impeccable comic timing. However, some previously prominent characters like Jo and Ramya receive lesser focus this time.
Newcomers like Tanvi Lehr Sonigra as Vipassana and Kareema Barry as Hotmesss bring fresh dynamics to the series, addressing gender stigmas and social media obsession, respectively. The on-screen chemistry between Akash Thapa’s Dylan and Richa adds an endearing touch.
‘Girls Hostel’ season 3 propels the series forward with relevant and relatable new characters and situations. With each episode clocking in at 25 minutes, this season, like its predecessors, is binge-worthy, offering an engaging viewing experience.
