In the second season of “Girls Hostel,” the rivalry between students from the Medicine and Dentistry streams continues. Ramya Mantri (played by Shreya Mehta), aided by college dean Dr. Sarla Desai (portrayed by Jayati Bhatia), assumes the presidency of the student body. However, a sudden decision results in dental students being relocated to a smaller hostel, leading to issues like water scarcity. This sparks outrage among Zahira (Parul Gulati), Richa (Ahsaas Channa), Mili (Simran Natekar), and Jo (Srishti Srivastava), who demand a fair selection process for a new president. The series revolves around whether Ramya, known for her assertive demeanor, will retain her presidency, or if her challenger Zahira will emerge victorious in the upcoming elections.

Directed by Chaitanya Kumbhakonum, this five-part series delves into hostel life and college politics. Co-written by Shreyasi Sharma, Anant Singh ‘Bhaatu,’ Prashant Kumar, and Swati Jain, the season addresses serious issues such as water crisis management and eve-teasing with a lighter touch. Overall, it offers more substance than mere conflicts.

Continuing from the previous season, Richa narrates the story from her perspective, while also navigating her romantic relationship with third-year medical student Aarav (played by Gagan Arora). Characters like Jo and Zahira maintain their aloofness, while Trupti Khamkar shines as the warden more focused on her plants than the students.

The cast, including Ahsaas Channa, Parul Gulati, Simran Natekar, and Srishti Srivastava, deliver honest performances, bringing believability to their characters. Ahsaas’s chemistry with Gagan is endearing, while Simran’s portrayal of Mili adds humor to the narrative. Parul impresses with her screen presence during the election campaign scenes, and Srishti’s portrayal of a tomboy adds depth to her character. Trupti Khamkar’s witty one-liners and Shreya Mehta’s portrayal of the domineering Ramya add further dimension to the series.

Despite longer episode durations compared to the previous season, “Girls Hostel” remains engaging, ensuring viewers remain glued to their screens until the end of all five episodes.
