Adapted from Tadeusz Dołęga-Mostowicz’s novel “Znachor” (meaning “The Quack”), the film follows the story of Professor Rafal Wilczur, a surgeon who loses his memory, family, and identity after a violent mugging. Presumed dead, he resurfaces years later, only to rediscover his long-lost daughter. “Forgotten Love” explores themes of resilience, determination, and the enduring power of human connection.

Despite years of memory loss, Professor Rafal retains faint recollections of his family and profession. Reuniting with his daughter reignites his love for her and triggers a journey of rediscovery. The film delves into sensitive topics such as humanity, parental love, and professional dedication, weaving Professor Rafal’s experiences into a compelling narrative.

Set against the backdrop of Polish culture in the early 20th century, “Forgotten Love” offers insight into societal conditions, the medical system, and the challenges faced by women in rural areas. Drawing from its 1937 source material, the film authentically reflects the social milieu of its time.

In terms of cinematography, “Forgotten Love” employs warm, pastel-toned hues that mirror the story’s somber mood. The soft colors evoke the nuanced emotions of the characters, enhancing the film’s emotional resonance.

With a runtime of 2 hours and 20 minutes, “Forgotten Love” allows ample time for its intricate plot to unfold. While the pacing may be deliberate, the film rewards patient viewers with a richly crafted narrative and compelling character development.
