Fear Street- Prom Queen (Netflix) Review :-
Honestly, the Fear Street franchise has never been one of my favorites. While I’ve always been a big fan of R.L. Stine’s books, the YA horror series just doesn’t translate well to the screen for me. That said, I actually found Part 3 pretty enjoyable — it had that fun, campy vibe. But Fear Street: Prom Queen, the final installment, is so bad that it’s hard to even appreciate it as campy by the end.
R.L. Stine’s stories are clearly aimed at younger readers just stepping into the world of horror. But this adaptation feels completely soulless at times, leaving you questioning what you’re even watching. It’s neither suspenseful nor engaging, and the high school drama falls flat—recycling the same shallow bullying and harassment tropes. If only the adults had shown even a bit of competence, maybe the situation could have been handled more realistically.
Tiffany constantly throws barbs at Lori, a shy, reserved girl who’s still waiting to emerge from her shell. Haunted by the tragic murder of her father, Lori’s past casts a long shadow over her. Meanwhile, Tiffany and her friends come across as nothing more than cringy stereotypes—though, admittedly, that might be true to typical high school dynamics. Then the murders begin. The gore is decent, and I appreciated the practical effects, but the film struggles to weave its storylines together, causing the pacing to drag and boredom to set in quickly.
There’s no real sense of suspense or danger; bodies simply start piling up without building tension. The biggest misstep, however, is the flimsy motivation behind the killings. Dan and Nancy feel like one-dimensional caricatures forced into their murderous roles, lacking any genuine or believable drive. Nancy is portrayed as a pushy stage mom who pressures Tiffany to compete, but how this escalates to murder is never made clear. Events unfold and conclude abruptly, leaving you wondering what the story is really trying to say.
Fear Street- Prom Queen (Netflix) Trailor :-
The performances are decent overall—India Fowler shines as Lori, and Fina Strazza delivers a strong portrayal of Tiffany. Katherine Waterston, playing Nancy Falconer, doesn’t get much material to work with, which keeps her from making a lasting impact. Ultimately, none of the characters are compelling enough for the actors to truly stand out.
Final Thought
This film is simply dull. Nothing feels engaging, and events unfold only because the plot demands it. There’s no natural rhythm, and both the characters and situations come across as forced and overly stereotypical. It’s best to give this one a pass.
