Sonu Sood’s directorial debut delves into the pervasive threat of cybercrime, a modern plague wreaking havoc in India. The film portrays how mobile phones serve as vulnerabilities, exploring how greed and desperation make individuals easy targets for malicious digital predators. The narrative begins with Fateh leading a quiet life in rural Punjab, but it swiftly takes a dramatic turn when a harrowing incident propels him into a mission to dismantle a cybercrime mafia. From the outset, the film plunges into action, taking viewers on a gritty, intense journey. While the fast pace keeps the audience engaged, the backstory of the lead characters lacks the depth needed to establish a strong emotional connection, occasionally leaving the writing feeling shallow and exaggerated.
The action sequences are intense, drawing parallels to the stylized brutality seen in Hollywood films like John Wick and Kill Bill. However, the escalating violence might not resonate with all viewers. Sonu Sood, in his directorial debut, effectively handles the action while keeping his character’s emotional depth somewhat understated. Naseeruddin Shah and Vijay Raaz leave a strong impact despite their limited screen time, with Raaz injecting sly humor that provides moments of relief in the film’s dark narrative. Jacqueline Fernandez delivers a commendable performance as ethical hacker Khushi, and the film is commendable for avoiding unnecessary romantic distractions.
The screenplay, penned by Sonu Sood and Ankur Pajni, takes viewers across diverse locations to underscore the extensive impact of cybercrimes. While the film’s relentless pace is a commendable trait, the narrative occasionally ventures into unrealistic scenarios, albeit reflecting the rapid evolution of digital fraud that lends some credibility to its more sensational subplots. The background score, crafted by John Stewart Eduri and Hans Zimmer, heightens the tension, though at times it may overwhelm the scene.
