Showrunner Leslye Headland characterized Star Wars: The Acolyte as a fresh inception, and the initial two episodes, now available on Disney+, indeed live up to that promise. Set during the twilight of the High Republic era, preceding The Phantom Menace, this suspenseful thriller traces the journey of a former Jedi who reunites with her mentor to unravel a string of homicides, encountering unforeseen shadows lurking in the background.

The Acolyte episode 1 & 2 recap: What happened so far

Episode 1 plunges viewers into the fray as Amandla Stenberg’s Mae, a Force-sensitive assassin, clashes with Jedi Master Indara (portrayed by Carrie-Anne Moss) over undisclosed grievances, leading to a lethal confrontation.

Mae’s twin sister Osha, a freelance mechanic, faces interrogation by Jedi Knight Yord Fandar (played by Charlie Barnett) regarding Indara’s murder. Despite vehemently professing her innocence, Osha finds herself entangled in the investigation due to a witness placing her at the crime scene.

During transit to Coruscant for trial, Osha’s transport is besieged by a prison break, crash-landing her on an icy planet. Meanwhile, Jedi Master Sol (played by Lee Jung-jae) delves into Mae’s potential involvement in the murders, despite memories of her as a devoted Padawan. His inquiry, aided by Yord and apprentice Jecki Lon (played by Dafne Keen), unravels intricate truths about Mae and Osha’s shared history.

In Episode 2, tensions escalate as Mae targets a Jedi temple and confronts Master Tobin. Unable to harm him due to an enigmatic Force barrier, Mae hastily retreats, leaving behind a deadly toxin. Convinced of Mae’s culpability, Sol confronts her, while Osha pursues justice without succumbing to vengeance.

About Star Wars: The Acolyte show

Rewrite This As the story unfolds, Mae’s actions lead to unexpected alliances and betrayals among Jedi, testing their beliefs and loyalties. The series explores deeper themes of trust, redemption, and the consequences of wielding power in the Star Wars universe.

Set in the waning years of the High Republic era, about 100 years before The Phantom Menace, this exciting new Disney+ series explores uncharted territory in live-action. Connected to the multimedia initiative known as Project Luminous, launched in 2018, The Acolyte forges its own path.

Similar to The High Republic novels, Headland’s series takes bold risks, including the early demise of some of its most compelling characters in the first two episodes.

The Acolyte Episode 3 comes out on June 11, 2024, at 9:00 pm EST on Disney+.
