Envious (Netflix) Review :-

You know you’re in for a rough ride when the Netflix series Envious kicks off with Vicky racing her neighbor to their floor. The twist? The neighbor is in the elevator while Vicky struggles up the stairs in high heels, literally competing with the elevator. Griselda Siciliani does bring some vulnerability to Vicky’s chaotic character, which is commendable. However, it can be frustrating to watch a character who seems to have no regard for others and often lands in messy situations due to her own choices.

The series feels reminiscent of classic comedies where a woman, after being hurt, makes questionable and obsessive decisions before embarking on a self-discovery journey. Vicky’s path is often embarrassing and annoying, leading to more cringe-worthy moments than laughs. In 2024, it’s hard to find humor in scenes where a woman, with gum in her hair, rummages through her ex-boyfriend’s things while trying to befriend his new wife. The surreal tone leaves you wondering if you’re meant to take this seriously or just laugh it off. Unfortunately, that confusion lingers throughout the entire 12-episode journey.

There are moments in the series where it gets the messaging and emotions right, especially through the other characters. During these scenes, you feel understood, realizing you’re not alone in your frustration with Vicky. She really needs some plot armor to help her find what she’s looking for in others and herself. The situations often seem straight out of a telenovela, which may not have been the intention. The only stable character is Esteban Lamothe’s Matías; he deserves so much more than he gets.

At times, the series feels quite dated. Much of the story revolves around Vicky’s desperate attempts to win over a guy to fix her problems. It’s sad and dehumanizing to watch her behave this way. It’s not just about her begging for attention; she often brings negativity to her friends’ happy moments. One might hope for her to catch a break, but instead, she faces humiliation in every episode, leaving us feeling both heartbroken for her and frustrated at the same time.

Envious (Netflix) Trailor :-

The problem is that the series feels frustratingly insulting to viewers, wandering through pointless plotlines involving Nicholas and not giving Vicky enough room to grow. Sure, Vicky is a broken person who needs guidance, but making us watch 12 episodes only to end on a frustrating note feels half-baked and renders the conflicts unnecessary.

Why Vicky is left to reflect at the end and why we don’t get a break from her poor choices are questions that remain unanswered. The series seems unconcerned about frustrating us as we watch Vicky make terrible decisions and tackle conflicts in a chaotic way. This really boiled my blood by the time the series concluded.

Final Thoughts

Envious is certainly entertaining—it’s a rage watch like no other. However, the series features a chaotic and messy protagonist who, by the end, fails to show any growth that might make us dislike her less. While messy characters can be relatable, Vicky’s continuous flaws from start to finish are hard to overlook. There are definitely some sweet and funny moments, but when the main character is so deeply flawed and faces no relief from her humiliating choices, it’s difficult not to feel a strong sense of anger after 12 episodes.
