Controversies addressed
In May, PEOPLE reported that Ellen’s upcoming Netflix special, scheduled for taping on August 16 and August 17 in Minneapolis, would be her final one. DeGeneres hinted that the special would address questions from fans, including contentious topics.
These inquiries may touch upon allegations of a toxic workplace environment on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, as reported by BuzzFeed News. The article highlighted issues such as penalization for taking medical leave, instances of casual racism, and backlash against those filing complaints.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, DeGeneres disclosed that she chose to end her long-standing television program in response to these allegations. The series concluded after nineteen seasons, but the actress expressed readiness for a new chapter.
A legacy of hilarity
DeGeneres’ recent comedic performance occurred at Largo in Los Angeles on April 24, where she touched upon various aspects of her life, including facing challenges in show business due to perceived meanness. She expressed her joy at returning to the stage and highlighted the strength of her bond with Portia de Rossi.
With a career spanning several decades, DeGeneres has earned numerous accolades, including 12 Daytime Emmy awards, a Primetime Emmy award, a Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, and a Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Her most recent Netflix special, “Relatable,” was released in 2018, marking her return to stand-up comedy after a 15-year hiatus. Earlier this year, she made an unexpected comeback in comedy at Beth Stelling’s Beth & Pals event, alongside other notable personalities.
Ellen’s final tour promises to be a memorable tribute to her illustrious career, offering one last dose of laughter and joy to her audience.
