Dude Review :-
Debutant Keerthiswaran’s Dude is a rare mainstream hero-elevation film that convincingly tackles a relevant real-world issue. It balances humour with sensitivity, which is one of the many strengths of this fast-paced film. Sharp editing keeps the narrative flowing effortlessly, ensuring there’s always something happening on screen to hold the audience’s attention.
Dude strikes a rare balance between mass appeal and meaningful storytelling, a feat few recent commercial films have achieved. In his Tamil feature debut, Sai Abhyankkar fully captures Keerthiswaran’s vision, translating it beautifully through his music.
Despite featuring numerous pro-woman dialogues, Dude isn’t as feminist or progressive as it believes itself to be. It’s baffling that a filmmaker capable of tackling such a hard-hitting issue overlooks the problematic central love story between first cousins. While Pradeep Ranganathan (Agan) and Mamitha Baiju (Kural) share convincing chemistry, their characters are first cousins, and even as they approach marriage, no one around them questions it. The film even tries to downplay it by framing them as mere friends. It’s disappointing to see a mainstream 2025 film still resort to such an outdated and insensitive trope.

Pradeep’s Agan may have been promoted as the cool guy before the film’s release, but luck clearly isn’t on his side in matters of romance. Perhaps to compensate, the film casts him as the selfless savior, always going out of his way to help others. While Pradeep carries the more sympathetic role, the writing leaves Mamitha’s character, Kural, feeling unintentionally cold and at times even clueless.
Final Thought
Sarath Kumar, portraying Mamitha’s father and Pradeep’s uncle, shines in a dynamic role that lets him showcase his range. The supporting cast is strong, as are the leads. Pradeep brings his trademark boy-next-door charm, and it’s impressive how he continually finds fresh dimensions to this persona in each film. Mamitha delivers a terrific performance, and having dubbed for herself adds a layer of authenticity to her character.
