Creating a film or web series based on historical events demands deep research for accuracy and authenticity. However, Mahesh Majrekar failed in this fundamental aspect while crafting “1962: The War on The Hills,” which aims to depict one of India’s significant historical stories. Despite featuring notable actors like Abhay Deol, Mahie Gill, Sumeet Vyas, Anup Soni, and Akash Thosar of “Sairat” fame, the series falls short in all aspects – direction, writing, and performances.
The detective drama kicks off with the discovery of a woman’s body at a construction site, reminiscent of the disappearance of Dude’s mother and fellow detective, Sunita, in Season 1. Despite pressure from the police, his father, and his boss, Pahwa, Dude refuses to identify the corpse, citing clues that contradict his mother’s attire. Meanwhile, Dude and Ashok tackle a new case involving a missing pen drive containing cryptocurrency passwords worth Rs 6.5 crore, leading them into a tangled investigation.
While Season 1 boasted intense storytelling and engaging mysteries, Season 2 falls short in emotional depth and gripping narrative. The shift from murder mysteries to information theft initially disappoints, but the complexity of the case gradually draws viewers in. Despite the lower humor quotient, the chemistry between Ambrish and Arun remains entertaining, with Bhatia’s irreverence adding levity to the storyline. As in the previous season, Dude becomes emotionally invested in his clients, adding depth to the character dynamics.
Although Season 2 may lack the finesse of its predecessor, it remains fast-paced, slick, and thrilling, promising further revelations as Dude edges closer to uncovering the truth behind his mother’s disappearance.
