Set almost entirely in a sleek high-rise restaurant, the smartphone plays a crucial role—acting almost like a silent antagonist. With a concise 90-minute runtime, the film avoids unnecessary distractions, delivering its suspenseful experience with precision. Though the plot is straightforward, Christopher Landon’s direction elevates it into a tech-driven, high-stakes narrative.
The story follows Violet (Meghann Fahy), a widowed mother who, after five long years, is encouraged by her sister Jen (Violett Beane) to give dating another try. She agrees to meet Henry (Brandon Sklenar), a photographer, at an upscale high-rise restaurant. What starts as a simple evening soon turns into a nightmare when Violet begins receiving ominous AirDrop messages from an unknown sender. The threats escalate, and the tension peaks when Violet watches her home’s CCTV feed on her phone, discovering a masked intruder threatening her son’s life unless she poisons her date, Henry. With the AirDrop messages only working within a limited range, everyone in the vicinity becomes a potential suspect. Violet must stay calm, think quickly, and find a way to protect both her son and Henry.
Meghann Fahy delivers a subtly powerful performance as Violet, expertly portraying a woman balancing charm and fear. She skillfully hides her growing anxiety while navigating the escalating terror of the evening, capturing the emotional control and quick thinking the role demands. Brandon Sklenar’s portrayal of Henry is both relatable and layered—he grounds the character with emotional depth, playing a man who is eager to connect but oblivious to the danger unfolding before him. The chemistry between Fahy and Sklenar adds warmth to an otherwise tense and chilling narrative.
