The series centers around two competitive reporters vying for the coveted prime-time anchor position. Their rivalry turns chaotic, causing the network to suffer, prompting their boss to force them into an uneasy partnership. But things take an unexpected turn when their forced collaboration leads to an accidental marriage, and now they must navigate the mess of getting a divorce while keeping their new relationship a secret.
With a plot full of twists and turns, this show offers a fresh and engaging take on the romcom genre. It stands out amidst the many similar series on Indian television, offering a more grounded storyline that avoids the overly dramatic tropes that can be tiring. As you watch, however, you’ll notice that some characters feel familiar, appearing in many shows you’ve seen before.
Whether it’s the arrogant, competitive, always-right Nihat, the laid-back and charming Ashutosh, or the price-obsessed brand enthusiast Ajay, these are characters we’ve seen before. They don’t evolve much and remain largely the same throughout the show, though they do show some growth, as expected for the plot. Meanwhile, the supporting characters’ performances sometimes lean toward the dramatic, though it’s unclear if this is intentional.
On the flip side, the dialogue hits the mark, keeping the audience engaged. It stands out, especially in showcasing the rivalry between the two main characters while maintaining high energy. Since the story unfolds in a news channel setting, it also gives a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes of journalism, raising thought-provoking questions about the industry.
One of the central themes of the story is divorce, and it effectively highlights the struggles of navigating this process in Indian society. The stigma surrounding divorce is palpable, with even the judge biased against granting separations, and the counsellor stubbornly refusing to break her streak of zero divorces. The family dynamics add to the absurdity, with their outrageous stories providing both humor and frustration. While these elements are presented in a comedic light, they also reveal the deeper flaws in how divorce is treated in the country.
The series emphasizes how easy it is to get married, but how difficult it can be to divorce, a hurdle that many may not be able to overcome. This theme is portrayed brilliantly, and I appreciate how the show delves into it. However, I do have some reservations about the sudden shift towards love at the end, with flashback scenes that feel too clichéd and reminiscent of Bollywood tropes. The show wraps up with several loose ends, and I can’t help but feel they could have been tied up more effectively.
