Sonali Singh, manager of Diljit Dosanjh, recalled an incident where the singer had to land a helicopter in a car parking lot to avoid a delay in his show.
Known for his record-setting prowess, Diljit Dosanjh recently made history by performing at Coachella, becoming the first Punjabi singer to grace the renowned music festival stage. Reflecting on this milestone for the Indian community, Diljit’s manager, Sonali Singh, shared her thoughts in a recent interview.
During an interaction on the YouTube channel Chai With T, Sonali expressed, “It wasn’t just about Diljit being at Coachella or being the first Indian or Punjabi artist to perform there. The entire community felt like we all made it to Coachella. It was a moment of immense pride and overwhelming emotions. Every time he steps on stage, I find myself in tears, filled with goosebumps. It happens with every single performance. I’m backstage somewhere, shedding tears of joy.”
The life of a performer is marked by uncertainty, often leading to challenging situations. Sonali discussed the unpredictable nature of her and Diljit Dosanjh’s profession during the conversation, highlighting how they’ve become adept at managing stress. She recounted an incident where Diljit had to resort to unconventional measures, such as landing a chopper in a car parking lot, to avoid a delay in his show.
She recounted, “We had a show in Jalandhar, and we arranged for a chopper from Amritsar to save time. However, the chopper experienced delays of 15 minutes, then half an hour, and eventually an hour. By then, even if we had opted for a car journey, we wouldn’t have made it on time. It was a challenging situation, knowing thousands of people were waiting for us. We were anxious and stressed at the time, but that intensity has since diminished. Though there are still unpredictable days, we’ve come to accept them.”
She continued, “Eventually, the chopper arrived. Initially meant to land elsewhere, due to our delay, the pilot landed it in the car parking area right behind the stage. Everyone assumed Diljit was making a grand entrance by landing on stage via chopper, but that wasn’t our plan. It just happened to work out in our favor. The universe always seems to align in your favor.”
Diljit Dosanjh’s career is currently reaching new heights. He not only delivered a career-defining performance in the acclaimed film Amar Singh Chamkila but also achieved a historic milestone by selling out a show at the BC Place stadium in Vancouver, entertaining an audience of over 54,000 people.
